CHICAGO, IL- June 9, 2008 --Tickets are now officially on sale for the BlackRock 2008 concert, the largest hiplife, hip-hop, reggae and dancehall jam of the year. BlackRock will take place July 26th at Chicago's historical Congress Theater. Among these artists is a highly anticipated and rare performance by the 'God-Father' of hip life Reggie Rockstone. Although Reggie's fan base extends to hip-lifers worldwide, his musical background has allowed for successful collaborations such as his ht single 'King meets King' featuring Beenie Man and Nigerian hitmaker 2face Idibia.
Rockstone will grace the stage with a crowd pleasing performance by Africa's "Most Wanted" musician the Kangaroo man himself, Tic Tac. The energy and intensity of Tic Tac’s performance and onstage swagger caught the eye of renowned hip-hop and dancehall music video director Gil Green (director for Lil Wayne, 50 Cent & DJKhaled,). While shooting a music video for Akon in Ghana, Green stumbled upon Tic Tac's talent and directed an MTV Africa Base video for 'Kangaroo'. Promzy, Prodigal and Lazzy are ready to bring the noise and move the crowd . This charismatic band of three makes up the universal group V.I.P . V.I.P will rock the stage with show stoppers Castro “the Destroyer and famous female crooner MzBel. Lovers of R&B will appreciate a performance by highlife artist K.K Fosu .
The show embeds itself into the fabric of one of the largest African expositions in North America , Ghana Fest which is held annually on the last Saturday of July in Washington Park. For the past 20 years Ghana Fest has entertained and educated thousands of patrons. Often the after- parties are filled with a growing crowd of dedicated patrons who just cant get enough of the ‘Fest Therefore this year BlackRock will kick it up a notch giving the crowd they want and creating a brilliant line-up of some of the worlds best musicians and DJ's spinning everything from hip hop, to reggae while combining the sounds of hip-life and high-life genres .
BlackRock was founded by major events organizer ,Maggie Siaw. For the last 5 years Maggie has organized and produced events for several opening acts at many Chicagoland venues. Through a cooperative imitative BlackRock has consulted with International Entertainment pioneer Hashim Haruna of the Boogie Down Nima Foundation, an organization that utilizes music and the arts to enrich the lives of children in the impoverished Nima neighborhood Ghana’s capitol city Accra. This dynamic duo of event coordinators have made a promise to the patrons of Ghana Fest and people of the city of Chicago to make “ This a spectacular event “. In addition to the 2008 lineup four slamming DJs will be bringing the noise including WGCI’s Heavy Hitter DJ TIMBUCK2 , global sensation DJ SAM Q and NYC’s #1 underground HIP-HOP DJ RONNY RON.
