Agona traditional council holds durbar for investors

Agona-Ashanti, Nov. 25, GNA - Citizens of Agona-Ashanti resident in the United States of America have contributed 90 million cedis towards the improvement of facilities at the Agona hospital.

Mr Henrric David Yeboah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya-Sekyere East, announced this at a durbar of chiefs and people organized in honour of 50 American investors at Agona on Thursday. The investors are in the area to explore the possibility of establishing agro processing industries and other ventures.


The MP said the development of the area depended to a large extent on their efforts and asked them to contribute meaningfully towards the implementation of projects to improve their living standards. Mr Yeboah said the investors were invited to the area to discuss bilateral, economic, social, and other cultural issues to help improve the status of the people in the area.


Mr Kwadwo Afram-Asiedu, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, said there was strong cordial and bilateral relations between Ghana and the US and was optimistic that the visit by the Americans would strengthen the cordial relations between the two countries. He said the visit would enable the people and the investors to discuss more issues that would improve the living standards of people within the traditional area.

Professor Samuel Akainyah, leader of the delegation said the investors were made up of lawyers, bankers, industrialists and other professionals who were prepared to assist in the development of the area.


Mr Ben Abankwa, Afigya-Sekyere District Chief Executive, said investment in agro-processing industry in the area would certainly give more value to their produce and enhanced their marketability as well as stimulate more production and appealed to the investors to support in establishing such ventures.


Nana Dr Frimpong Anokye II, Omanhene of Agona Traditional Area, later installed two of the investors Mr Willie Carington and Mrs Sandra Dickson as Nkosuohene and Nkosuohemaa respectively for the area. Nana Anokye said efforts were being made by the traditional council to rehabilitate the palace to attract tourists into the area and appealed to the citizens to support in the execution of the project.
