Air vice Marshall Lassen honoured

The Veteran Peacekeeper and Former Chief of Defence Staff, Air vice Marshall Napoleon Ashley Lassen (rtd), has been honoured for his immense contributions to commission Ghana into UNIFIL. The 75th Battalion is honoured to have him back in the Mission Area after three decades.

He was part of the six- member delegation who visited Ghanaian Battalion currently serving with UNIFIL to access situation and also been part of their Medal s Day Celebration.

Air vice Marshall Lassen was Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from 1972 to 1974.The seed he sowed continue to be in the mind of people as the saying goes ‘’ a nation which fails to honour its great men is not worth dying for .” In recognition with his laudable effort, a short but impressive Wreath Laying ceremony was held at the Ghanbatt Headquarters on Wednesday 4 may, 2012 at AL-QAWZAH in Sothern Lebanon. The ceremony was in remembrance of fallen Ghanaian soldiers and civilians who lost their lives in the quest of peace in Lebanon. At the ceremony, Reveille was sounded where two minute of silence was observed for the departed souls who sacrificed their lives for mankind. Wreath was also laid by Air vice Marshal Ashley for fallen peacekeepers.

The officiating Clergy Lt CDR Paul Adjei - Djan and Lt SS Abdul – Majeed jointly prayed for peace in war torn areas and peacekeepers across the globe. Other dignitries Present at the ceremony were the leader of the Delegation ,Chief of Staff ,Commodore Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro , Director of Defence Industries , Brig Gen Hyacinth Nii Armah Tagoe,Flag Officer Commading Western Naval Command ,Commodore Emmanuel Akoto Bonsu, a Member of the Armed Forces Council , Col Liticia Ohene – Kwapong (Rtd) Director at the Defence Comptroller (GHQ),Col Cecilia Akyiaa Gambrah, CO of UNIFIL Ghanbatt 75,LT Col Albert Dawohoso, Officers and Men of UNIFIL Ghanbatt .
