NORMALIZING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN KUFUOR AND RAWLINGS
Reconciliation in itself is NOT A BAD THING.
In my view it is not necessary, no one can force the two of them to be friends. I don’t believe the present President is in anyway antagonizing Rawlings. Rawlings has to come to terms with the fact that he is no longer the President of Ghana, and that he is just like any member of the society.
Let me give you two examples of Ex-Presidents:
Ex-President Clinton and President G. W. Bush are not friends and this is known to everyone. Clinton does not interfere with the running of the US government/administration, since he left office as President. He has not even publicly commented on the Iraqi war. The US economy is not very good in recent months and yet Clinton has not made remarks about that. Kufuor does not owe Rawlings and Rawlings does not owe Kufuor anything.
My second example is about Great Britain, John Major since he left office has never commented on how the present British Prime Minister, Tony Blair runs Britain.
Rawlings interfering with the running of the country at the moment under the Kufuor administration shows clearly that anywhere Atta Mills might be in the future, Rawlings will like to influence what he does politically.
Rawlings should respect the constitution of Ghana which he himself made and which limited the period of the presidency to two terms.
He should give Kufuor a break
Give himself a break, and
Give the whole nation a break.
