Asante Day/Delegates’ Congress In Toronto, Canada

On the 10th anniversary of the birth of Asante Day/Congress, the reconstituted 2nd Annual Asante Day Celebrations and a Delegates’ Congress will be held, with all its pomp and glamour in Toronto Canada, this Labor Day Weekend, August 30-31, 2008.

Organized by the Asanteman Association of Toronto in collaboration with the Asanteman Council of North America, ACONA, eleven member associations from across North America will converge on the Canadian city in what observers believe will be one of the most colorful events ever to be held in North America by the Council since the great ‘Asante Olympic Event’ held in Atlanta, GA on September 5-6, 1998.

Events for the 2-day celebrations include: Saturday, August 30 (2:00 pm – 5:00 pm): A procession and durbar of Chiefs and Queen Mothers of all eleven Asanteman Associations from across North America, amid drumming and dancing. Location: Kipling Community Center Park, Toronto, Ontario

Sunday, August 31 12 Noon – 5:00 pm: Delegates’ Congress, forum for discussions on socio-economic issues affecting member associations and development projects in Asanteman, 7:00 pm – 3: 00 am: Fundraising Dinner/Dance. About Asante Day Asante Day celebrations seek to promote unity among all member associations by showcasing the rich Asante culture and its heritage, and as providing a forum for discussions and implementation of the Council’s program of socio-economic issues and activities affecting member organizations in North America, as well as development initiatives being undertaken in Ghana.
