Ashanti Unity Dinner Dance Held in New York

Ghanaians from all corners of United States displayed a very strong sense of commitment, dedication and loyalty to their tradition, when friends, relatives and members defied the heavy down pour of rain and thunderstorms to attend the well organized and a colorful Ashanti Unity Dance @ 1211 Brook Ave. off 168th Webster & Park Ave; on the 25Th December, 2009.
The floor was fully packed to capacity and as Nana Osei Ofosu - Gyambibi, a staunch member of the Ash Town Club with much enthusiasm said "Even if is raining, snowing, thundering, heavy sun shining, we do not care, we will come out in our numbers to support our Association, to dance, to eat, to make merry, we love Asanteman to death and we will give out our utmost best, whenever the need arises"
Mr. Kwame Asumeng, the former Secretary of the Ashanti Unity Association was overwhelmed by the solidarity of member associations of Ashanti Unity and the transformation of the organisations in achieving their goal of fostering cooperation and providing assistance to the needy.
Mr. Kofi Agyei Poku, the President of Asafo, Fanti New Town and Amakom Association of New York, congratulated the various members of the Ashanti Unity associations being Amansie Kuo, Ashtown Club, Asanteman, Agogoman, Asante-Mampong Kontonkyi, Effiduase, Ejisuman, Suame Abusua, Oseikrom, Tafo Pankrono, and Juansaman.
Daasebre Anane Amponsah the Asantefuohene of New York, paid homage to His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the occupant of the Golden Stool for his fatherly advice, not only to Asantes alone but to all Ghanaians in the diaspora to emulate the shinning example of their forefathers and kinsmen by appreciating and respecting all tribes irrespective of their tradtion or culture.
Daasebre Amponsah, the Asantefuohene urged the members "to let Unity be their cornerstone and hall mark,so that with one voice, one common goal, one vision, we can move the Ashanti Unity to achieve more honor and we also strive very hard to move the image of Ghanaians to a higher level by leading an exemplary life."
" United we stand , divided we fall and a house divided by itself cannot stand, so the bible says and I am cautioning you all here tonight on this Christmas day that, we have more things ahead of us, since togetherness,understanding,effective communication,management,and determination, most of our plans can be achieved and by so doing the posterity will not forgive us, because we have failed to live up to expectation and I am very sure and confident that nothing of that sort will be done by us to fail our children" Daasebre Amponsah noted.
The Asantefuohene of New York advised the gathering to do away with the tendency of sending miss-information across, they should also do away with matters that will mar the good name of Ghana, as well as avoid back-biting, unfounded allegations, litigation, and should always remember that " we have no country other than Ghana and due to that, we should do much more to be law abiding citizen's and let your children know more about the tradition and the culture of Ghana"
Solidarity's messages were given by the President's of the various Associations whilst they challenged the members to be punctual at their meetings, pay their dues on time, be self disciplined, visit those who are back sliding, encourage them to forgo their differences and also to bring more people to meetings since it takes people for development and progress.
Nana Kwabena Amakye- President of Suame Abusua Kuo of New York thanked all the members for braving the rain and cold weather to show up in their numbers which shows their level of dedication and love for the Association. He used the occasion to express his appreciation to the Association and also wish them a prosperous New Year.
The Ace Comedian Kwaku Danquah popularly known as “Ice Kenkey “ was there to treat all to some good jokes.
Miss Ivy Rose Quarshie “Ever Present “the Executive Secretary General (ESG) of the National Council of Ghanaian Associations (NCOGA) of New York were there to grace the occasion. Alhaji Maddah, the former ESG of NCOGA supported Ms Ivy Quarshie and leaders of Ashanti Unity to present an award to the Ghana National Parade Council for being the first to organize the All Ghanaian parade in New York to showcase the qualities of Ghanaian culture.
