and Business Community.

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia exhilarated the Ghanaian community in the New England state of Connecticut, USA on the 15th of July 2012. As if his affable personality and seasoned intellect on the current quandary Ghana finds herself wasn’t enough; he amazed the crowd by presenting some luminous antidotes needed to help extricate the nation from its myriad problems, such as corruption, illiteracy, wanton judgment debts, unemployment and the continuous depreciation of our currency.

Dr. Bawumia was on a tightly scheduled campaign tour of the USA and Canada as part of the NPP’s “Listen and Restore Hope Campaign,” to meet and interact with Ghanaians in the Diaspora. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was accompanied by Mr. Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, NPP General Secretary, Mr. Anthony Abayefa Karbo, NPP National Youth Organizer, and the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Dome Kwabenya, Lawyer Adwoa Safo, a nascent force to be reckoned with within the party. Adwoa also is a testimony to the party’s commitment to gender balance and the role of the youth.

Dr. Bawumia has received rave endorsements not only as a viable Vice Presidential candidate for mother Ghana, but more importantly, as a capable technocrat, who is going to bring his economic expertise to bear on Ghana’s imminent socio-economic transformation when the NPP assumes power in 2013, by the grace of God.

The Connecticut chapter of NPP-USA is recognized in NPP circles as a solid and vibrant chapter that always stands ready to ensure that the party is on a sound footing to undertake its campaign activities. The chapter is under the able leadership of Mr. Eugene Kyerematen. Together with the National Chairman of NPP-USA, Nana Agyei Yeboah, who is a member of the Connecticut chapter, the chapter has undertaken vital initiatives in ensuring victory for the party in 2012. In addition to providing key human capital for the party’s campaign and electoral machinery, it is also pivotal in ensuring that the party has the requisite apparatus to ensure victory in 2012.

A teaming crowd of well-wishers and supporters gathered at the residence of the Chairman, Mr. Eugene Kyerematen, for a Fund-Raising Dinner in honor of the VP candidate, in the town of Windsor. Many of the Ghanaian entrepreneurs and business owners in Connecticut also were in attendance to listen to the world renowned economist, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

His visit underscored the relevance and contributions of Ghanaians abroad to mother Ghana, and the commitment of a future NPP government to join hands with Ghanaians in the Diaspora to bring their expertise to bear to improve the lot of our dear nation. He acknowledged the human resource potential of Ghanaians abroad and wondered why our country recognizes the importance of foreign soccer players in our national team but fails to embrace and engage with Ghanaian professionals abroad.

The Vice President discussed the need for Ghana to rein in on import duties, to encourage investments from ordinary Ghanaians. He emphasized the need for technological development to bring Ghana to compete in the 21st century rather than trudging in 18th century technology.

The residence was filled with well-meaning Ghanaians from most of the New England states who were obviously yearning for a message of hope and well meaning assurances that the Akuffo Addo/Bawumia ticket will do all it can to put the country in a better direction as we saw during the tenure of President J. A. Kufuor. The Vice President and his delegation did not disappoint, but rather offered constructive solutions waiting to be implemented under a new NPP government. They urged all Ghanaians to join hands in ensuring a free and fair election that will propel the NPP to power, come 2013.
