Mr Kwabena Gyamfi-Mensah, a 48-year-old citizen of Boabeng in the Nkoranza District residing in Canada has presented a telescope and a silver cup valued at about six million cedis to the Nkoranza Secondary/Technical School (SEC/TECH) and the Nkoranza District Assembly respectively.
He expressed the hope that they would help boost the morale of the youth to take their education seriously.
Mr Gyamfi-Mensah said he had visited a number of schools in the area and had known their problems and promised to donate some educational materials to support them.
He called on other foreign-based citizens to assist in the development of the area.
Mr Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, District Chief Executive, expressed appreciation for the items noting, "such attitudes of some citizens indicate their concern and commitment to the development of the area". He urged other citizens of the area to emulate Mr Gyamfi-Mensah to promote the development of the district.
The silver cup, known as 'Nkoranza Unity Cup', would be competed for in a football gala every year among soccer clubs in the area to enhance sports among the youth.
Mr James Ampofo Arthur, Assistant Headmaster of the school, who received the items, described the offer of the telescope as very timely as the school had begun to run Vocational Technical (VOTECH) programmes. In 1994 Mr Gyamfi-Mensah offered a similar cup to be competed for by Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) in Brong-Ahafo.
