“Bribery and corruption are the cause of rejection”

A member of the NDC Communication Team in Germany Mr. Karim Dagara has admitted that the nationwide protests and subsequent rejection of MMC/DCEs nominated by President John Mahama is the direct result of the massive corruption, bribery and the underhand dealings that have characterized the nomination process. Mr. Dagara who made these admissions on a Stuttgart-based Radio (Sankofa FM) while speaking from the Nkwanta South Constituency in the Volta Region revealed that most of the President´s nominees are so unpopular within the local communities that they had to resort to the politics of bribery and intimidation of Assembly Members.

According to him, one has to pay between Ghc 20,000.00 and Ghc 30,000.00 to party officials and members of the appointments committee to be considered for the position of MMC/DCE saying “these things are still going on as we speak” He explained that as the NDC readies itself for the election of Constituency, Regional and National Executives, most of the incumbent officials are bent on maintaining their favorites who would in turn support them with money and resources during the elections. He said the intra-party struggle within the NDC is between people who are determined to maintain the status quo albeit against the will of the people and people bent on ensuring radical shake up and change of direction in the party. He pointed out that this unfortunate situation has caused apprehension and disaffection among the rank and file of the party adding that this if not checked could negatively affect the electoral fortunes of the party. Speaking on the same program, Mr. Kwaku Anane-Gyinde, Director of Communication NPP-Germany, said the revelation does not come as a surprise but only goes to confirm the widely held view that corruption has become institutionalized under the Mahama-Amisa-Arthur administration.

He maintained that one does not have to be a rocket scientist to recognize the massive level of corruption ranging from the Embyer 190 saga, the SADA scandal and lately the GYEEDA fraud all of which point to the fact that corruption and ineptitude have become the norm rather than the exception under Mr. Mahama´s government.

Mr. Anane-Gyinde expressed regret that governance in Ghana today has been reduced to the level of auction sales where the highest bidder gets the right to occupy important national positions adding” under the NDC appointment to public office is not based on merits such as competence, experience and qualifications but made purely on one´s ability to pay bribes and trade the worst insults” The NPP activist argued that the current economic crisis in the country is a product of corruption, incompetence, lack of leadership and the absence of policy coherence across most ministries and government departments “of course what you put in is what you get out. If you put garbage in, don´t expect something different”
