CENAB UK And United For Change Movement Support Let Me Vote Count Alliance

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 Source: CENAB UK

CENAB UK, a Ghanaian advocacy group based in the United Kingdom, and United for Change Movement (UCM) have thrown their joint support for the Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), a coalition of young patriotic Ghanaians bringing pressure to bear on electoral reforms in Ghana.

This joint support has been necessitated by the need for all progressive forces to help to protect and strengthen our democracy ahead of the 2016 elections.

Both UCM and CENAB UK have been calling for electoral reforms and have both called for transparency in the electoral processes ahead of 2016 and therefore deem it fit to join hands with the Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) in its statement asking for the president to consult widely before selecting the replacement for Dr Kwadwo Afari-Djan

The responsibility of the President is borne under Article 70 of our Constitution which enjoins the President to only appoint upon due advice from the Council of State.

For this reason, a clear sign of the Council of State leading the process must be seen by all Ghanaians so that the full intent of the framers of the Constitution is seen at play. Any attempt by the President to choose his own favourite, who invariably with be appointed to do the biddings of the NDC will be fiercely and vehemently resisted.

For these reasons, CENAB UK and UCM are joining forces with LMVCA in calling all major stakeholders, including political parties and civil society group to engage in this very important process which will go a long way to ensure transparency in election 2016 and beyond.

We are also joining hands in the call on President Mahama to heed this call and proceed on the side of caution and national unity as the peace of Ghana will depend on this decision.

Thank you
