The Convention People?s Party (CPP) UK & Ireland branch held its quarterly General Meeting on Sunday 14th May in London.

The event on this occasion was a forum for very serious and ambitious plans for the CPP.

In addition to the customary executive updates to members on Party affairs, elaborate plans were presented for CPP Government.

Osahene Kojo Boakye ?Djan - a Presidential aspirant, was first to outline plans for taking the CPP into power once again in Ghana.

He called for a clear identity for the CPP, explaining the difference between the ruling NPP?s right wing ?Property Owning? conservative ideology, the opposition NDC?s ?Social Democracy? but liberal philosophy and what he called the CPP?s ? Equitable Egalitarianism ? fair equality?

He said as progressives the aim is to build a society in which the condition of the lower majority of our people, facing hard and harsh struggle, becomes the standard of measure of progress for all Ghanaians, as against the liberal NDC aim to build a society driven by the liberal principle of equal opportunity in which the condition of the middle minority, usually professionals, becomes a standard of test of progress for all Ghanaians. He said the conservative NPP aim is to build a society driven by the conservative principle of privilege in which the condition of the upper few, usually the owners of property and business, becomes the standard test of progress.

UNITE ? a diasporan Nkrumaist pressure group within the CPP family also presented strategies to lead the CPP to government. In a powerful ?PowerPoint? presentation it explained its name as Uniting Nkrumaists Into the Third Era ? first era being the CPP government of the 1950?s and 60?s, second era being President Hilla Limann?s PNP government of 1979 to 1981, and the third era being the next CPP government.

The presentation included CPP/PNC/Nkrumaist electoral performance, an analysis of the top 150 Nkrumaist constituency seats in Ghana and the organisational strategies to improve the CPP?s chances of winning in those seats. UNITE?s organisational plans have been passed on to the National Chairman and Leader of the CPP in Ghana ? Dr Edmund Delle.

Osahene Boakye-Djan is taking his plans to Ghana on the next phase of his campaign for President of Ghana.

The meeting called on all prospective CPP Presidential candidates to focus urgently on the needs of the ordinary citizen of Ghana whose plight is worsening by the day under the NPP government.

The meeting also discussed plans for Ghana?s Jubilee celebrations in 2007 and the CPP?s role in it.

Members who attended were unanimous in their view that the NPP government has failed Ghana and its people and that the general despondency and feeling of hopelessness among the population is a matter that must be addressed urgently with a strong message of hope from the CPP.
