Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Nana Agyemang Badu II, Omanhene of Dormaa Traditional Area has urged Ghanaians in the Diaspora to support the Government in its effort to accelerate the development of the country as their contribution to nation-building.
He conceded that although it was the responsibility of the central government to provide for the needs of the society, material and financial contributions from Ghanaians in the Diaspora could help accelerate the pace of development.
He said by making such contributions they would not only be helping to lay a better future for succeeding generations but giving meaning to the Ghanaian spirit of being the brother?s keeper.
Nana Agyemang Badu, who is currently on a two-week visit to the UK, made the remarks during a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Isaac Osei(pictured), Ghana?s High Commissioner to the UK.
Present during the courtesy call were members of the new executive of the Ghana Nurses Association (UK) including its President, Mr. Dela Doe who formally presented a cheque of ?10,000 to the High Commissioner as the association?s contribution to the Mission?s charitable project launched last year to raise funds for the Children?s Block of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Others included Dr. Emmanuel Akuffo, Chairman of the ?10-To-Save-A-Life Appeal Fund Committee and Patron of the association and Mr. Gaisie Oppong, President of the Dormaa Association (UK and Ireland).
Receiving the cheque, Mr. Osei associated himself with the sentiments expressed by Nana Agyemeng Badu and urged Ghanaians to let their love for the nation be seen in practical terms.
High Commissioner Osei declared ?the only country we have is Ghana; so let us work together no matter where we come from in Ghana to support the ongoing process of development?.
He praised members of the Association for redeeming their pledge which, he said would go along way in putting the Children?s Block a good shape.
Mr. Dela Doe, President of the Association pledged members had resolved to offer their services to the Ghana Health Service during their holidays and prayed that a system would be put in place to enable them pass their acquired experience to nurses who are currently practising in Ghana.
