Mr and Mrs Isaac Kofi Atobrah resident in Holland donated reflective clothes and other items to the Eastern Regional Police Command at Oyoko near Koforidua on Wednesday as their contribution towards making the police more functional.

The other items included three touch-lights, a packet of dry cell batteries and a wall clock. Last year the couple donated a typewriter to the Oyoko Police station.

Mr Atobrah said the gesture was to show their appreciation to the police service for its "impressive" efforts aimed at ensuring the security of life and property in the country.

He said he would make similar donation to Police at Akomadan in the Ashanti Region, where he hails from.

He said he and his wife expected a well-equipped police service to assure foreign investors of their safety in the country. Receiving the items, the Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Alhaji Amidu Mahama, on behalf of the Police Administration, expressed his appreciation to the couple for the gesture, noting that the government alone could not provide all the needs of the service.

He said the Police require logistics including vehicle, communication gadgets and computers to enhance its operations. Supt. Mahama announced that in order to ensure incident-free in the Christmas holidays, the Regional Police Command had instituted a 24-hour patrol system and set up camps at crime-prone areas such as the Kwahu-Tafo-Adawso trunk road to the Afram Plains to check robbery. Krontihene of Oyoko, Nana Kofi Agyei Ababio, who chaired the ceremony, commended the couple for their patriotism and called on both local and foreign-based Ghanaians to emulate the donors.
