Easter is an occasion celebrated because of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his rise from death three days later. Easter is also typically "Christmas" for Kwahus. It is a tradition that has gone on for years. In Ghana, all Kwahu natives living outside the towns of Kwahu, visit their home towns and pay homage to the occasion, celebrating with family and friends. It is like Passover in the United States with people greeting each other with words like ?Happy New Year? or ?Afrehyia Pa?. This event is celebrated by the Kwahus more than any other African tribe. Easter takes on a different meaning and takes the place of Christmas.

The Ghanaians abroad, especially the Kwahus, also celebrate the occasion by having various events planned a year in advance. The Kwahuman Association of New York led by its President, Mr. Koo Fosu and his executives namely Mr. Fred Dwamena, Mr. Addo, Mrs. Diana Moffat, Mr. Bobby Agyekum, Mr. Anim Dofoo, Mr. Kofi Dankwah, Ms. Ethel Sarpong, Mr. Ben Kissi and Mrs.Yvonne Ofosu-Mensah, Mrs Dora Dofoo celebrated this year?s occasion with a live band featuring the impressive Kaakyire Kwame Appiah straight from Ghana. As a matter of fact, the band arrived the same day of the event and did a fantastic job. This event was sponsored by Ghana Airways with Mr. Henry Van Dyke, Marketing Manager of Ghana Airways and other corporations and staff in attendance.

The event was well attended by many and the dance floor was packed to capacity for each number played. Kaakyire Kwame of Ghana and his band kept everyone dancing and made everyone want more. Among the attendees were special guests that included Mr. Kwasi Agyemang, President of the National Council of Ghanaian Association of New York, Alhaji Mardah, Executive Secretary of NCOGA, Ms. Rose Quarshie, Deputy ESG, NCOGA (historically the first female ESG of NCOGA), Mr. Gyan, Mr Thomas Mensah, Mr. Kofi Dankwah, member of The Kwahuman Association and Deputy PRO of NCOGA, Mr. Charles Nimmo N-Mensah aka Mr. CNN of Ghanaweb.com and many invited corporate sponsors were represented. The event was hosted by none other than the ever impressive comedian, "Dr. Rokoto" aka Nana Twum Barimah and Kwahuman PRO, "Sir Bobby".

It is nice to see Ghanaians come in large numbers to celebrate this Easter. Next year?s event is going to be "Chaotic". Congratulations to Mr. Koo Fosu, The Kwahuman executives and all its members for this great occasion. Keep up the good work and continue to make Kwahus proud worldwide.
