Mr Alhassan Yakubu Tali, a prominent citizen of Tolon in the Northern Region of Ghana has announced the setting up of an Education Fund to assist needy students and help improve education in the area.
Speaking on Sankofa Fm here in Germany, the 46 year-old investment Banker who holds a masters degree in Business Administration[MBA] –Finance, said the main purpose of the Fund will be to provide material and financial support for students across the Constituency which stretches from Zantani to Nyankpala. He disclosed that he had already initiated discussions with his colleagues in the Banking sector both in Germany and the United Kingdom as well as a number of Non-Governmental Organisations[NGO’s] in Germany. He added that most of the bodies and organisations contacted have expressed their readiness to support such a noble cause.
Mr Yakubu-Tali explained while travelling through the constituency during the NPP Primaries,he was confronted with issues and challenges that matter most to the people. These challenges according to him, included Infrastructure, Health Care, Jobs, Agriculture and Education to mention but a few. He was of the view that these are real challenges that can no longer be ignored but must be confronted so as to leave Ghana a better place for future generations. While acknowledging that issues such as health care, Jobs and Agriculture are equally important, Mr Yakubu Tali Insisted that education remains the most important challenge that must be given prior attention if the constituency and for that matter Ghana as a whole is to develope. He said ’Like my leader and Mentor Nana Akuffo-Addo, I believe providing quality education is the surest way of reducing poverty and preparing the youth to face the future with hope’. He made it clear that although he did not win the NPP Primaries, he stands ready and willing to contribute in whichever way he can to ensure the party emerges victorious in the Tolon Constituency come 2012 saying’ The need to ensure victory for the Party has assumed much greater significance for me beyond the limits of my personal ambition’.
Touching on the 2012 elections,Mr Yakubu Tali predicted a massive victory of at least 90% for Nana Akuffo-Addo and the NPP in the Tolon Constituency. According to him, the massive support the party enjoys in the constituency stems from the abysmal failure of the Mills-Mahama administration to meet the basic needs and expectations of the people .He said there is also the realisation that the NPP under the leadership of Nana Akuffo-Addo is a better alternative to the NDC adding’We have the right leadership, the right policies and above all the right people to govern and manage the affairs of our country’.
He pointed out that since 1992, the people in the Constituency have always voted for the NDC but it remains one of the most deprived communities in the country. In view of this the people have become disenchanted with the NDC government which by all intents and purpose have failed them adding that what Ghanaians have witnessed under the failed Mills-Mahama administration are promises instead of projects and programmes.
