ExxonMobil on Tuesday announced the appointment of a new manager for its Torrance refinery

Maxwell A. Ocansey, who has been with the company since 1980, takes the helm today, a spokeswoman said.

Meanwhile, Peter W. Trelenberg, the previous manager, has transferred to ExxonMobil Chemical Co., where he will serve as manager of special projects, planning and business development.

Ocansey, 52, was most recently the refinery process manager for ExxonMobil's largest U.S. refinery in Baytown, Texas.
A native of Ghana, he studied chemical engineering as an undergraduate at the University of Leeds in England before pursuing graduate studies at the University of Minnesota.
