Accra, Nov. 23, GNA- John Wolsey Nkuah, a farmer at Wassa Akropong in the Western Region who defrauded a Ghanaian Nurse resident in the United States of 94,000 dollars under the pretext of selling to her a building, was on Friday put before an Accra Circuit Court charged with defrauding by false pretences.

Nkuah's plea was not taken, and Mr Justice Frank Manu, a High Court Judge, with an additional responsibility on the case as a Circuit Court Judge, remanded him in police custody for two weeks, to enable the police to complete their investigations.

The facts of the case are that in February this year, Mrs Victoria Sakyibea, the nurse, came down to Ghana on a business trip.

Some few days later, she received numerous foreign telephone calls from an unknown person who claimed to be one Mr Adjei resident in the United Kingdom.

One day, Mr Adjei rang Mrs Sakyibea and alleged that a friend of his, by name Koranteng, was involved in a criminal offence in London, and they needed money to engage the services of a lawyer.

Mr Adjei alleged that Koranteng's sister resident in London owned a building at East Legon, which she wanted to dispose of, in order to meet the legal fee.

Mr Adjei gave her the telephone number of one Samuel Reynolds Koranteng, who he claimed was the father of that Koranteng in London. Mrs. Sakyibea developed interest in the building, and one Alex Koranteng, escorted her to inspect the building.

Later, she entered into an agreement with Samuel Reynolds Koranteng, and the terms under which the payment of the building, pegged at 200,000 dollars, were spelt out.

Mrs Sakyibea paid an initial instalment of 94,000 dollars, and left for America.

In June she came back to Ghana, and when the nurse wanted to effect additional payments, she found to her surprise that the contact lines of Samuel Koranteng and the other accomplices were switched off.

Mrs Sakyibea reported the matter to the police and when Samuel Koranteng was arrested, investigations revealed that his real name is John Wolsey Nkuah.

The police are making efforts to track down his accomplices, Alex Koranteng and Adjei.
