GHAG UK Inauguration: “What can you do”

Wed, 28 Jul 2010 Source: Kwame Amankwa

You are invited to join us for an inauguration evening . . . The Ghanaian HealthcareWorkers Associable Group (GHAG) is a fast growing and ambitious welfare group based in the UK. We are made up mostly of healthcare workers – doctors, nurses, porters, secretaries, security staff etc. GHAG aims to serve several purposes including building communication among Ghanaian communities, improving cultural cohesion, and undertaking health improvement projects.

GHAG sees to the welfare of its members but this year is one of “mission possible”. We believe that “good health is wealth” and that we have a moral duty to contribute to promoting the health of our folks back in Ghana. Undertalking such projects can be a very frustrating, difficult and perilous – bureaucracy, insentivity, jealousy, pilfering etc but determined as we are we believe we can. It is a way of ensuring that “We grow plantain and banana” at the same time just in case. Afterall “Yen ara ya sase ni” - this (Ghana) is our land. For that simple reason we are focusing our upcoming inauguration event to initiating the process of mobilizing funds, knowledge and skill to support some of the healthcare services such as maternity, medical and surgical care delivered by some of the major or big city teaching hospitals as in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale and also the small local polyclinics etc. Often the belief has been that foreign agencies and health professionals will step in to plug the gaps. Well so far the evidence points to the fact that more needs to be done and that is why GHAG is stepping up its efforts.

The event is on Saturday 7th August 2010 from 5.30pm to 11pm. The venue is the Secombe Theatre, 42 Cheam Road, Sutton, Surrey SM1 2SS, UK. The theme is “what can you do?”. There will be entertainment - music, dancing and Ghanaian dishes for our visitors to enjoy. There will also be a small entrance fee of £15 (fifteen pounds).

The guest speaker is his Excellency the Ghanaian High commissioner to the UK, Professor Kwaku Boafo -Danso. We have also extended invitation to most of the companies based in the UK that do business to Ghana and prominent individuals and other Ghanaian welfare associations.

We kindly invite all who believe in our objectives and share our cause. Come in your numbers to support this noble event. For further details contact us at; ghanaianhealthcareworkers@ymail.com or face book.com – Ghanaian healthcare workers.

On behalf of GHAG; Kwame Amankwa, Chair –GHAG.
