Ghana has been elected to serve on the Executive Council of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) at the 21st session of the General Assembly of the UNWTO, held in Columbia.

The UNWTO Executive Council being the highest making body, takes all necessary measures, in consultation with the Secretary-General, for the implementation of its own decisions and recommendations of the Assembly.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare who led a team of officials from Ghana said the election puts Ghana on the spotlight in global tourism.

Ghana’s election is believed to be in recognition of its efficient hosting of the BrandAfrica conference, hosted in Accra in August this year and its special role in the affairs of the international tourism body.

UNWTO is considered the most important global meeting of Tourism Ministers, senior tourism officials, and high-level representatives from the private sector.
