Ghana’s influence in global diplomacy continues to rise as Kwame N Acquah, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Seychelles in Ghana, has been re-elected to the Board of Directors of the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC) with an overwhelming 91% international endorsement.

Acquah secured 39 out of 43 country votes at the 14th World Congress of Consuls held in Marrakech, Morocco, from October 29 to November 1, 2025. The Congress convened nearly 200 delegates representing more than 45 Consular Corps from FICAC’s 100 member-states — a strong testament to the global scale of the event.

This re-election marks his second consecutive term on the prestigious international body, reaffirming Ghana’s growing stature in global consular and diplomatic affairs.

Acquah will continue to serve alongside FICAC President Nikolaos K Margaropoulos and Vice-President Asif A Chowdhury, both re-elected unopposed for the 2025–2028 term.

“A Mandate of Trust and Service”

Speaking after his re-election, Acquah described the overwhelming support as both humbling and motivating, emphasizing Ghana’s active role in fostering international collaboration.

“This renewed mandate is not just a personal honour but a recognition of Ghana’s vibrant and proactive consular community,” he said.

“Receiving 39 votes out of 43 countries reflects our collective commitment to elevating consular standards, fostering international cooperation, and ensuring that the voice of Africa is strongly represented in global diplomatic discourse.”

Ghana’s Strong Representation

The Ghanaian delegation to the World Congress was led by D Avraam, Dean of the Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana (HCCGH) and Honorary Consul of Belgium. Other members included the Honorary Consuls of Cabo Verde, Jamaica, Luxembourg, Mexico, Seychelles, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Their participation underscored Ghana’s Pan-African commitment and growing leadership role in international diplomacy.

Leadership with Proven Impact

Since his appointment as Honorary Consul of Seychelles in 2016, Acquah has been instrumental in strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and Seychelles. He played a pivotal role in facilitating multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during the 2024 state visit of Seychelles President H.E. Wavel Ramkalawan, covering education, tourism, culture, fisheries, and health.

As Executive Secretary of the HCCGH, Acquah has led several impactful initiatives, including the Adopt A District Programme, Green Ghana Day participation, and humanitarian support for underserved communities — actions that have enhanced Ghana’s reputation as a diplomatic and development partner.

Strengthening the Link Between Diplomacy and Trade

Beyond his diplomatic duties, Acquah also serves as Managing Director of RDFC Holdings, where he has facilitated partnerships between multinational corporations and Ghanaian firms in the energy, infrastructure, and finance sectors. His work promoting local content participation and ethical business practices has helped position Ghana as a preferred investment hub in West Africa.

“In today’s interconnected world, consulates are not just diplomatic outposts; they are catalysts for economic partnership,” Acquah noted.

“The overwhelming confidence expressed through this vote strengthens my commitment to leveraging FICAC’s global network to create tangible business opportunities and promote sustainable investment across Africa.”

A Legacy of Ghanaian Leadership in FICAC

Acquah’s re-election continues a proud Ghanaian legacy within FICAC, following in the footsteps of Amarkai Amarteifio, Dean Emeritus of HCCGH, who served as both Director and Vice-President of the global federation.

Founded in 1994 and a FICAC member since 1996, the Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana has grown from 11 founding nations to now represent 40 countries, making it one of Africa’s most active and respected consular networks.

Looking Ahead

FICAC, established in 1982 and accredited by the United Nations in 1993, is the world’s leading organization representing honorary and career consuls. The Federation promotes excellence in consular practice, humanitarian cooperation, and global development.

The next XV FICAC World Congress is scheduled for 2028, with Kazakhstan, India, and Mauritius having submitted bids to host the event.

With Acquah’s re-election, Ghana remains at the heart of global consular leadership — championing Pan-African cooperation, economic diplomacy, and international friendship.
