Ghana’s Peace is Non-Negotiable-Concerned Students’ Coalition-USA Chapter The Concerned Students’ Coalition (CSC)-USA Chapter will like to appeal to all Ghanaians, especially the political parties seeking to lead the country to take concerted efforts to sustain the peace and harmony the country has enjoyed during and after the elections as we vote on December 7.

The CSC has closely monitored and followed the political terrain in a distance of time and will like to stress that the two leading political parties must tread cautiously in their utterances that have the potency of derailing the socio-political and economic fortunes of Ghana.

We students living outside the country hold our nation in high esteem in every platform we mount and will not hesitate to hold any political party, group or individual accountable should it portray a tendency that results into chaos in the December elections.

In the 2008 elections, we called on the NPP to relinquish power to the NDC when it was obvious that Ghanaians spoke clearly in the run-off elections and we believe the party for posterity sake accepted defeat and gave peace a chance. (http://www.yasni.com/ext.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fpolitics.myjoyonline.com%2Fpages%2Felectionnews%2F200901%2F24557.php&name=William+Yamoah&cat=news&showads=1) The CSC will like to make a similar appeal to any party that might lose in the coming elections to exercise some level of restraint, exhibit maturity and dignity and accept defeat in order to avoid any bloodshed during and after the elections.

There is no gainsaying that Ghana has chalked many successes in the past elections and nonetheless has become a model for other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Ghana has gained recognition and respect for the growing rule of law and freedom of speech in the country which must be sustained and not derailed in the forthcoming elections.

In fact, the CSC believes it is a responsibility on the part of all Ghanaians and especially political parties to demonstrate high sense of maturity so that the current tension does not escalate and zoom into upheavals. The CSC will like to commend the Nana Otumfour and the religious leaders for the recent “Peace Pack” in Kumasi. However, we want to underscore that the “Peace Pact” could become a mere formality if the politicians and all Ghanaians do not translate it into full action.

One thing that is quite clear is that Ghana is the only home we have and any attempts by any individual, political party or group to meddle in our peace should not be tolerated. The CSC will like to enjoin all the electorate to closely scrutinize the policies put forward by all political parties seeking their mandate before casting their votes and should not be carried away by mere propaganda. We wish Ghana a peaceful election and well always remember the country in our prayers.

May God bless our homeland Ghana.
