Every year on 28TH February, various security forces holds an impressive parade to commemorate the Christiansburg Castel Crossroad shooting incident that saw three defenseless ex-service men killed by the colonial police.
This year’s February 28, will go down in history not for the records of another shooting incidents in Ghana but to the world as the day the Pope of the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI, officially resigned as the spiritual leader of the church with population 1.149billion members.
But for Ghanaians living in Greater Toronto Area[GTA] especially Etobicoke City, the day will remain as the sad day where the shocking news hit them that a Ghanaian inadmissible to Canada was arrested by the Canada Boarder Services Agency in Vaughan who would be deported back to Ghana.
On that fateful day as everyone’s mind was tuned to the official resignation ceremony of the catholic pope, the breaking news hit the Ghanaian community that the CBSA has posted on its website that it has arrested high risked migrant fugitives including a Ghanaian on its wanted list.
A quick check on the CBSA website as the tip got to this reporter proofed the story was true as the post of 30 wanted fugitives according to the CBSA was clearly displayed with their photos attached to their profiles. The Ghanaian was third in vertical order.
The CBSA announced on that day that it had arrested the 38TH and 39TH fugitives on its wanted list and the addition of five new profiles. Accordingly, the Toronto Task Force [TIF], a joint forces operation comprising law enforcement personnel from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police[RCMP] and CBSA who works together to apprehend high risk migrant fugitives made the two arrest of persons on its list.
It said, in the evening of February 20, 2013, TIF officers arrested Robert Akwesi Boakye in Vaughan, Ontario. Boakye is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality for having been convicted of extortion. He has also been convicted of uttering threats, possession of counterfeit mark, obstructing a peace officer and fraud over 5000 dollars.
The story went on to disclosed that, two days later on February 25, TIF officers arrested Hong Guang Xue in Guelph, Ontario, following an investigation dated October 2011. Xue is inadmissible to Canada as he allegedly committed an offence outside of Canada that if committed in Canada would constitute a Canadian offence.
According to the CBSA website, to date as a result of the “wanted by CBSA” programme, Canadians have assisted in locating 39 individuals in Canada, of which 26 have been removed. In addition six individuals were located abroad.
The wanted by CBSA programme has proven to be a useful tool in assisting the agency in locating individuals who are wanted for removal it claimed therefore encouraging members of the public to frequently visit the “Wanted By The CBSA” site for updates on new cases, apprehension and removals which indicates that Canada is leaving no stone un turn to remove inadmissible migrants from the country.
Let the opinion leaders, clergy and the government officials of Ghana serving the Canada raise more awareness about acts and omissions that can make one inadmissible and be removed from the country.
