Ghanaian charged with passport fraud

Antigua & Barbuda -- A citizen of Ghana appeared in the St. John’s Magistrates Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Asquith Riviere yesterday on forgery and uttering charges.

Casmea Macawlay, 38, was remanded into custody until today after his lawyer Vere Bird Jr. asked the court for time to get certain aspects of his client’s case sorted out before he addresses the court.

It is alleged that on 23 August at the V.C. Bird International Airport Macawlay uttered a forged document purporting to be a United Kingdom passport knowing it to be false.

Macawlay was also accused of forging the said passport. Although he pleaded guilty to the charges, his lawyer requested some time before the court proceeds with the matter because he understands that the document is legal. The case will continue today.
