A tragic incident unfolded in Manchester, leading to the death of a 43-year-old Ghanaian woman, Alberta Obinim.

Here's what we know so far:

Stabbed three times:

According to manchestereveningnews.co.uk report, Alberta Obinim was stabbed in a violent attack that took place on Barnard Road, Gorton, Manchester. The attack is reported to have occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

Two others injured:

Alongside Alberta Obinim, a 17-year-old girl and a 64-year-old man are reported to have also suffered serious stab wounds during the incident. Both victims are currently in critical condition and receiving treatment in a hospital.

Suspect known to victims:

The Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that the 22-year-old male suspect, who has been arrested on suspicion of murder, was known to Alberta Obinim and the other two victims.

An active member of the Ghanaian community:

Alberta Obinim was a member of Manchester's Ghanaian community. She regularly attended the Blessed Baptist Temple church in Levenshulme.

Attended church before her death:

According to a family friend, Ibrahim Abu, also known as Obudo, Obinim was dancing and praising God at her church before she met her untimely death.

He told the Manchester Evening News she was a member of the city's Ghanaian community and attended Blessed Baptist Temple church.

He said the news of her death was a "big blow" to the community.

"Yesterday, she was at church, dancing and praising. She was at church... and we wake up and hear she has died," Mr. Abu said.

He said the community is "pleading to God" to help heal the two other injured victims.

"We hope they will come back to us in good health," Abu is quoted as saying.

Worked as a care worker:

A 31-year-old work colleague said she worked with the woman, who was a care worker, at Chrysalis Care, and the pair did home care in the local area.

She added: "I worked with her quite often, and everyone I spoke to at work is in shock. It doesn't seem real.

"I want to let her family know she was loved. Her family probably don't realise how much the girls [her colleagues] do appreciate her. I don't think anybody would have a bad word to say about her; she was lovely, really nice. She was well loved at work," she said, adding that she was 'proud' of her family.

Suspect arrested:

The 22-year-old suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

The police have launched an investigation and are appealing to the public for any information that might help piece together the events leading to this tragic incident.
