The CPP parliamentary candidate for Nhyiaeso constituency in Kumasi, Mr Kwame Appiah, has stated that the time has come for all Ghanaians living abroad, especially the intellectuals to play frontline roles in the country?s development.

He has therefore, called on them to offer themselves to contest elective political positions in the various political parties in the country.Mr Appiah who said this in an interview in Accra on Tuesday explained that Ghanaian intellectuals resident overseas had acquired skills which could be tapped by the state to improve the economy and raise the quality of life of the people.

According to him, ?the various sectors of the economy need an infusion of value added skills to salvage the country?s ailing economy,?The CPP parliamentary candidate for Nhyiaeso said political parties provide platforms which Ghanaians living overseas could exploit by contesting in all the elective positions, especially parliamentary and national executive positions.

?We should not be on the periphery of politics in the country but strive to play frontline roles to bring about changes needed to turn the economy around to cushion the social problems confronting the people,? he said.Mr Appiah said the exposure that intellectuals living abroad have had in modern trends in international economic relations and the sciences place them in a better position to assess and find lasting solutions to problems bedevilling the country.

?We will be doing the nation and the vast majority of the people a great disservice if those of us who have acquired good knowledge in business, science and technology choose to live in comfort in the developed nations at the expense of placing our talents to enhance the growth of the country,?he said.

Assessing his chances in the forthcoming elections, the CPP Nhyiaeso parliamentary candidate said, the massive support he is receiving in the constituency following his desire to contest on the ticket of the party points to a resounding victory in the December elections.

He said the the CPP cherishes freedom and the respect for individuals rights adding that ? I have therefore, placed all my talents and resources at the disposal of the well being of the people in the constituency?.
