H.E. Mr. Isaac Osei, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK has urged Ghanaians to continue to forge linkages among themselves with the ultimate goal of supporting events in Ghana.
He said the spirit of togetherness which permeated every fabric of the Ghanaian society should not be sacrificed through parochial and myopic interests.
High Commissioner Osei therefore exhorted Ghanaians to continue to think about the nature of their contributions that would enable them to network and support one another.
These remarks were contained in his remarks at a farewell party held by the GHANASS Old Students Association (UK) in honour of Commodore Christian Puplampu, outgoing Defence Adviser of the Ghana High Commission, London.
He said he was optimistic that Commodore Puplampu would continue to display the same zeal which enabled him to accomplish his assignment as Defence Adviser in his new position at the Western Naval Command at Sekondi on his return home.
Mr. Osei praised members of the Association which was formed about four months ago for rallying round to contribute towards the organisation of a befitting send-off for a true son of GHANASS.
The High Commissioner commended the proprietor of the ?80,000 refurbished - Next Door Restaurant which hosted the event and expressed the hope that the facility would continue to be maintained in order to attract goal patronage for the centre.
Mr. Kwabena Baah-Duodu, Deputy High Commissioner and an old boy of the school who also spoke at the occasion urged Ghanaians to use old school associations to assist their former schools and added that such gestures would enable the youth of today to be better leaders of tomorrow.
He noted that “nation building involved the training of our youth who are destined to take over from their predecessors when we are no more.”
Mr. Baah-Duodu stressed that in this fast growing ICT age, the training of our youth had become even more critical than ever before.
He declared: “The industrial revolution left us behind, let us ensure that the ICT revolution does not leave Ghana behind by training our youth properly”.
Mr. Oppong Adarkwa, Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Association commended Cdr. Puplampu and the Deputy High Commissioner, for their immense contributions towards the establishment of the association. He assured them of the determination of the members to protect the seeds they had helped plant in the UK in the overall interest of future old boys of the school.
Commodore Pupulampu and his wife were presented with parting gifts. In response, Commodore Pupulampu thanked members of the Association for their generosity and pledged to support the Association in its future activities.
Earlier, at a send-off party held in honour of Cdre. C.B. Puplampu, Defence Adviser and his deputy Col. E.A. Klutsey, Deputy Defence Adviser, who would assume the position of Deputy-Director General, Joint Operations at the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces, Accra, Mr. Isaac Osei praised the officers’ for their dedicated and devoted services.
The High Commissioner said the commitment showed by the officers should inspire other officers as well as the in-coming officers to put in their best for the realisation of the Mission’s objectives.
The two have been replaced by Col. Richard Debrah as Defence Advisor and Group Captain S.D. Derry as Deputy Defence Adviser.
