and St. Patrick’s Day in Style!
Ghanaians in Ireland commemorated Ghana’s 55th Independence Day in Dublin in a ‘grand style’ on 17th March 2012 at St Patrick Church, Lucan. Being it a historic day that marks ‘St. Patricks Day’ and the most celebrated day in Ireland, Ghanaians from different counties, ethnic groups, political affiliations, religious groups, community groups etc. joined in celebrating Ghana’s 55th Independence Day in a proper function that have never been experienced since the ‘Boom era to this present Bust’ period.
The occasion dubbed ‘working together for our children’s future’ was put into full swing with prayers from Pastor Ricky Sarpong (the nominated Chaplain for the Ghana Union in Ireland), followed by Alhaji Adam Mahama entreated Ghanaians in Ireland ‘to always stand together, become one people, speak with one voice, move on the same path in all our endeavours and pray for mother Ghana in this election year.
In what follows, by the good works of the MC’s for the occasion (Mrs Pamela Hagan-Morgan and Mr. Nana Kwame Acheampong), the Ghana national Anthem was observed followed by some beautiful cultural dance displays form our talented kids groups- comprising of the Big Six, Barbie Girls, The Now, Omega etc. properly ‘drilled’ by Mrs Delvin Akpaloo, Ms. Ama Konadu Yiadom and Ms. Vida Asamoah to specially entertain the guests.
The Interim Chairperson Mr. Kwabena Antwi-Bosiako in his welcome speech, identified the need why all Ghanaian’s in Ireland should volunteer in creating a sustainable platform that could facilitate seeing our children identifying themselves with our motherland; becoming the future leaders in Ireland; understanding Ghana’s rich culture and history; our children knowing themselves; Ghanaian’s in Ireland being there for each other; respecting our fellow Ghanaians/coming together as Ghanaians and making a positive impact in Irish History. In furtherance to that, Mr. Adekunle Thompson- a Ghanaian born and bred who experienced the Gold Coast era gave a beautiful presentation about Ghana’s independence and its rich history.
In giving credit where it’s due, our beautiful Ghanaian ladies dressed in Kente in different styles, Maxi dresses, T-shirts & Jeans etc which was led by the Organising Secretaries ‘Mrs Nancy Agyapong, Mrs Christina Appiah, Mrs Jacqueline Takyi-Berko’ and many more did extremely well by preparing varieties of ‘finger- licking’ dishes ranging from Hausa koko & kosey, jollof rice, waakye, kelewele, etc. – ‘live’ frying of Irish Chips and Spring-Rolls, whiles the men provided drinks to ‘soak-up’ the atmosphere.
At the climactic stage of the occasion, members from the Ghanaian community and the invited guests were moved off from their seats by ‘D. J Raspizo’ starting with some gospel sounds followed by some ‘Azonto’ tunes and mixing it with some old-skulls/hip-life collections making quests wanting and gasping for more. In conclusion, Mrs Pamela Hagan-Morgan gave the ‘vote of thanks’ urging ‘all’ to pray for our mother Ghana for a political stability as we are in an election year.
