Ghanaians in Namibia say farewell

The Association of Ghanaians resident in Windhoek, Namibia, over the weekend organized a send-off for the outgoing High Commissioner, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Harruna Attah whose tour of duty ended on 7th January, 2016. He is homeward bound after serving for two and a half years.

The President of the Association, Dr. Edward Fynn, a medical practitioner led the many tributes paid by other members of the association. They commended the High Commissioner for his efforts at promoting Ghana-Namibia relations and promoting the welfare of Ghanaians in Namibia. In his response, the High Commissioner said he was proud to have served his God and Country and was returning home in honour and dignity to contribute more to the development of the country. He mentioned the 2nd Session of the Ghana-Namibia Permanent Joint Commission on Cooperation which Ghana hosted in November 2016, the resumption of Air Namibia flights to Ghana, the promotion of Ghana’s Diaspora Engagement policy, many bilateral initiatives with Namibian and Ghanaian institutions and the highly successful state visit of former President Mahama to Botswana in 2015 as some important milestones during his tenure.

Members of the association and Ghanaian staff of the High Commission provided food and drinks with the mutton version of the popular “aponkye nkrakra” topping the fare. They presented him with parting gifts including a carved map of Africa showing the “Big Five” wild animals of Namibia.
