Ghanaians in Stuttgart Support Dokua Foundation

This sense of commitment to be our brother´s keepers is more or less a strong metaphor of reconstructing the World to be a better place for all. It is quite obvious that the task of shaping a balance social and financial justice for all should not rest upon the shoulders of policy makers, governmental bodies and politicians alone. Hence, contingent of charity organizations and individual philanthropist have taken it as a divine assignment to help the helpless, the needy and the destitute ones.

Nanahemaaa Dokua Foundation is among those benevolent societies impassioned to combat against social injustice including, poverty, that results to all kind of slavery and domestic violence.

Founded a decade ago in London, England, Nanahemaa Dokua foundation has rescued countless number of destitute children, the sick as well as the less privileged or disabled and the outcast in the society.

Last week in Germany, Ghanaians in and around Stuttgart, the capital of Baden Württimberg, and their German friends, gathered in their large numbers to support the Nanahemaa Dokua charity event which took place at the famous Flamingo- weg Hall in Neugereut a suburb in Stuttgart.

In his opening remarks, a member of Radio Africa Editorial team in Stuttgart, Mr Yaw Debrah, also a moderator at Sankofa Radio Stuttgart also the axel of the charity event, rendered his appreciation to stakeholders and sponsors as well as numerous dignitaries including traditional chiefs and queen-mothers for their role making the event a colorful of its kind.

Nanahemaa Dokua is a Queen mother of Kyebi, a paramount traditional institute in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Back by custom and traditional ethics Nana grew up with a strong compassionate to serve the society. She is also an actress, a social commentator and has been assigned several years back as a radio Presenter at Rainbow Radio in London.

Commenting on her project the Queen mother revealed that she conceived the conception of caring for the needy ones when a caller presented his insolvable problem on air. After consultation with some reliable associates after the program, they were able to raise funds enabling the young man to accomplish his dream. Hence, Nana Dokua foundation was formed to support the sick, the poor and the abandoned in need both in Europe and back home in Ghana.

In construe, the traditional queen-mother elaborated that, a large constituencies around the globe, specifically, in the remote part of Africa are facing immense challenges. “Uncountable numbers of mothers and children are dying because of poverty….Others are suffering due to lack of food and water.. many can´t even afford a common meal a day.” Hence, Nana served it diplomatically as plea to the audience and at the same time as a commitment for each and every one to contribute towards a better well-being of the destitute ones.

The foundation has helped many the accessibility to quality and basic social services, including, education, number of preventive death, chronic malnutrition and further more empowering women for their rights against domestic violence. Another area that has generated considerable notification is the foundations initiative to combat child labour especially children being conscripted into sure dead zone arena in most part of Africa where rebels are in insurgence against authoritarian regime.

In response to the heartfelt appeal from the traditional queen, majority of the audience from Stuttgart contributed in aid to the confronted issue. Among those who threw their support behind the program were Ghanaian traditional rulers in the region, namely, Nana Owusu Boateng (Kwahumanhene) Nana Adinkra alias Igbe, Nana Yaw Owusu, Nanahemaa Kyere Gyeabour, Nkosuohemaa Diana Boakye and Nanahemaa Agyeiwaa Okodie . Others were representatives of the various church clergies, ethnic and tribal unions, the African media, and numerous sponsors, including Express Cargo, being represented by Mr Badu Martey, popularly known as father of the youth. In his closing remarks, Mr Adu Gyamfi who led the Ashanti Union delegation, Stuttgart, and also the spokesperson of Ghana Union, Stuttgart seized the opportunity to thank the whole entourage of the Dokua´s foundation for their unique and noble approach, campaigning for the distressed and the hopeless in the society.

The old African adage goes “A tailless cow relies under the protection and providence of the Creator” but once no one has met or seen the Creator then it is our individual responsibility as Ambassadors of God under the sun to put our conscience into the test. Our individual role to be our brother´s keepers will bring a gigantic transformation in this World we are living.
