Happy Founder’s Day, Ghana; Happy Birthday, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah
Today September 21, 2011, we remember the birth of one of the greatest men that lived for a short time but impacted the world positively. This positive impact has outlived him and even though his detractors have tried to inter his good with his mortal body and bones, the man Kwame Nkrumah, His visionary leadership, his ideologies, his Can Do Spirit and His Selflessness have always been celebrated everywhere the sun rises and sets.
Today, we celebrate the birth of the Osagyefo the Show Boy and action Man of Ghana
Today, we celebrate the son of Madam Nyaneba and the sun of Africa
Today, we celebrate the birth of the First Black man to declare independence in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Today we celebrate the man who has taught us to manage our own affairs because we can.
Today, we celebrate the man who visualised African Unity and was part of its Birth.
Today, we celebrate the man who laid the foundation for peace and prosperity in the land of our birth
Today, we celebrate the man whose cordial relations with colleague heads of state led him to sign agreements with these countries – some these bilateral relations have lasted for half a century.
Last year, we in China had the privilege of joining our President Professor John Evans Atta Mills and His Chinese counterpart Chairman Hu Jin Tao in Beijing to commemorate Fifty years of bilateral Relations between Ghana and China.
This year, on the 18th of August 2011 at the National Theatre in Ghana, I witnessed the re-enactment of the signing of the friendship treaty between Ghana and China fifty years earlier (18th August 1961) in China. This colourful ceremony was organized by the GHANA-CHINA FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION (GHACIFA), under the presidency of His Excellency Kojo Amoo-Gottfired. I also had the Privilege of seeing the youth of His time, the likes of His Excellency Kojo Amoo-Gottfired (Former Ambassador of Ghana to China), Reverend Professor Hesse, and Dr Edmund Delle who were in China in 1961 and are still with us today.
These men, who were empowered by the Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, are here with us today as a pointer to the fact that the Youth we empower today are the Leaders and Nation Builders Tomorrow.
Today, we celebrate the man who paved the way for us to be friends with everyone irrespective of colour or creed.
Indeed, “we don’t face east or west. We face forward”, said Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
Though he is not with us physically today, we know Nkrumah Never Dies.
As we celebrate the Birth of such an illustrious son of Ghana, Africa and the World, we in the NDC China Branch join the President of the Republic, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, the Ambassador of Ghana to China, Her Excellency Mrs. Hellen Mamle Kofi, and other well meaning Ghanaians the world over to wish Mother Ghana well.
May we all rely on God’s Great strength and Work like Him for who we cry.
God bless our Homeland Ghana, And make Our Nation even Greater and Stronger.
