Independence Party In UK

Sat, 20 Mar 2004 Source: frank adjei of ghanafuo.com

The queues started from 9 pm on Saturday 6th March. Many travel from outside London to celebrate Ghana?s 47th independence. The main road that links Vauxhall to Battersea ?Nine Elms Lane? in Vauxhall had to be closed off by the Metropolitan Police because of the excessive crowd that turned out to celebrate Ghana?s 47th independence dance organised by Ghana?s number one event organisers AkwaabaUK. Many with tickets arrived early and gained entry. VIP group arrived at the club around 11:30 and found it difficult to get into the venue. They managed to secure entry with the help of security personnel?s. Queues got bigger and longer.

This party was a prime example of Ghanaians bad time keeping. More latecomers arrive at the venue. Many got stranded out side the club. A few people started pushing and trying jump the queue. Things nearly got out of control and Club Security decided to close the main doors while a second hall within the club remained empty. The empty hall would of held more than 600 people. Over 1000 partygoers within the club were on their best behaviour. Club Owners decided to keep main doors shut because of health and safety. Almost 1000 people standing outside the club many with tickets later dispersed. Western Union the main sponsors gave away loads of goodie bags. OBE TV (Sky Digital 280) was present to capture the night on video to be televised in the near future. African Heritage publications and Ghanauncovered website were present to cover the event.

AkwaabaUK DJ entourage Exhale Sounds along with BIG L and Warren Mc got the crowd singing to the freshest beats. Not long after 1am ?FIRE? (MC for the night) entertained the crowd by doing what he does best, getting the ladies to dance for him. He said he?s been told that ?Ghanaian girls can?t dance?. So to prove him wrong he asked 5 ladies to come up onto the stage to dance, 7 ladies rushed the stage. Aloadia and Skoobie controlled the sounds with Giles Bossman. The ladies dance to some Hi-life music. The crowd judged and the winner received goodie bag from Western Union and a ticket to AkwaabaUK next event. The crowd were now ready for some more. ?FIRE? came back onto the stage to introduce the main acts for the night (Vision In Progress) VIP who was flown in from Ghana. The crowd chanted VIP, VIP, VIP. The group stormed the stage. The crowd loved them. VIP performed several of their hits. The crowd scream for more, and they got more. VIP performed their number one hit ?Ahomka Womu? before coming off the stage. Exhale Sounds continued by playing more fresh beats until the Club Owners asked for the party to come to an end almost an hour early. AkwaabaUK Organisers wanted 2004 party to be exclusive. Planning and promoting started way back in September 2003 after the Miss Ghana UK 2003. Several attempts were made to secure the SE One club, the venue of 2003 party, but management in SE One refused. Club Coliseum owners offered the AkwaabaUK the venue for 6th March and they accepted. Senior Event Organiser Dennis Tawiah (Radical D) has quickly secured another venue for Saturday 13th March for people who bought tickets and were unable to gain entry into the Club Coliseum. He?s published a letter of apology onto their website www.Akwaabuk.com. He also said future AkwaabaUK events will now be strictly ticket event. So you?ve been warned. On Saturday 13th March 2004, AkwaabaUK managed to pull a 500 strong crowd to Citizens in South London. This was an after party organised for ticket holders who couldn't get into Club Coliseum on Saturday 6th March. AkwaabaUK had only one week to promote this party but yet manage to draw a huge crowd. Ghana?s number event organisers AkwaabaUK has prove themselves once again.
