KNUST Alumni Association (Dmv-Chapter) End Of Year Dinner Dance

As part of the KNUST alumni annual activities, DC, Maryland, Virginia (DMV) chapter once again pulled a massive crowd of alumna and alumnus throughout out the United State and Canada to mark the 2nd Annual Fund Raising Dinner Dance event held in Alexandria, Virginia. A similar event was held last year and all proceed generated were donated to KNUST Endowment fund.

Among the dignitaries at the event were Dr. Osei Dankwah, President and CEO, Hawknad Manufacturing Industries, Inc., Dr. Osei Badu Nkansah of International Business Machines (IBM) and also Secretary of the North American Branch and Mr. Arkwa, the founder of Garden City University in Kumasi. Among important attendees were old students who graduated as far back as the 1960’s to 2008. Dr. Osei Dankwah who was the key note speaker urged all alumni to contribute in their small ways and means to help KNUST. He spoke extensively on many ways and opportunities that we all can take advantage of to help KNUST. Mr Albert Aquah, who was a guest speaker, also urged the alumni to continue to engage in effective social and professional networking. He reached out to the alumni to look into any strategic alliance they can establish with his University with their resources and experience to leverage mutual satisfaction for both.
General elections were held to choose the new executives who will lead the Chapter for the next two years. The outgoing branch leaders who are the pioneer elected executives implored the incoming executives to do well to reach out to every KNUST alumni in the DC metro area. The new team was sworn- in by Mr. Badu Nkansah, secretary to the North America association. The President elect, Mr. Kwaku Boateng attested to members’ commitment to the association’s course, their passion and enthusiasm which has brought the association to that far. He urged then to keep the same commitments to accomplish greater milestones for the years ahead. He encouraged members to keep up with their loyal obligation of dues payment and membership drive.
The DMV Chapter is a subsidiary of the North America chapter which continues to champion the course of the national alumni and seek for better development for KNUST. Among the lineup of annual activities the chapter will be engaging in are Baffour Charity Soccer Tournament, summer picnic for family and friends, and clothes drive for needy families in Ghana, among others. The DMV Chapter also intends to furnish a faculty at KNUST with communication gadgets this year. The Chapter is constantly looking for ways and means to help the University. The eight biennial North America KNUST Alumni National Convention will be hosted by the DMV Chapter in Virginia on the July 4th holiday weekend (July 1 – July 3). The last convention was held in Chicago,IL in 2009.

KNUST Alumni of North America is delighted to invite you to attend 8th Biennial Convention which will be held in Washington DC metro area on the July 4th holiday weekend at the Hilton Hotel in Springfield, Virginia. The event coincides with anniversary of the establishment of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and to celebrate the Centenary of the birth of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the Founder of the Nation, and to recognize his extraordinary vision for the emancipation of Ghana and the rest of Africa. The theme for the dialogue will be “BEYOND THE HORIZON”: Assessing KNUST’s Future Strategies for addressing current national and international challenges facing the University.
The event will be patronized by many important dignitaries around the world. Among the guests expected from the University are both the past and current Vice Chancellors and all Provosts from the various faculties. Every other year, North American branch of Alumni meets alongside global and regional professionals, academics, business people and many dynamic individuals and entrepreneurs to debate and deliberate in how best we can help the University. Through the event, funds would be raised, and all proceeds would be donated to the University. These events would also mark an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and establish professional social networking. The previous event was held in Chicago, Illinois in 2009. The keynote speaker was His Excellency, Aliu Mahama, the ex-vice President of Ghana.
Convention Program Activities lineup
Arrival of Guest and Socializing: (July 1, 2011 – 8pm-12am) The Hotel will be open for guest arrival and socialization at the Hilton auditorium. This event is open to all alumni, friends and family. This will be an opportunity to have close contacts with our high profile guests and dignitaries who will be participating in the event.
Keynote Address: July 2, 2011 – 8am-12pm) The Association has extended invitations to diplomatic dignitaries, thought provoking, inspiring and tireless leaders in the world communities to spearhead the event. We will send specific information out as soon as their roles are confirmed. The session will create the opportunity to hear from our guests. There will also be breakup sessions led by the guest speakers and University faculty staffs to brainstorm the convention theme and how it could be fulfilled.
Conference: (July 2, 2011 - 12pm-2pm) In the afternoon, The Provosts and Vice Chancellors alongside the invited key note speakers will lead thought provoking discussions to deliberate with members critical topics ranging from effective networking and the means to contribute to the University. The University faculty will also update the alumni body the new developments on campus and alumni concerns.
General Election: Elections will be held to elect National Executive bodies. Among the positions open are President and Vice, Secretary and Assistant, Treasurer and Publicity officer.
Dinner Dance and Fund raising: (July 2, 2011 – 8pm -2am) The Alumni body, and Guest Speakers including the diplomats and dignitaries will meet for Dinner Dance and fund raising. During the event, the current Vice Chancellor will confer honorary degrees to important and outstanding individuals who have contributed immensely to the cause of the University and the Association. This is the Fun part!!! This will be a ticketed event. Stay tuned for detailed information.
Capital Sightseeing Tour: (July 3, 2011 – 10am-12pm) Washington DC capital tour buses would convey alumni for a sightseeing into the capital for historical and memorial place in the City, the historical images, white house tales and many things in the capital. This will also be followed by a picnic hosted by the DMV chapter of the association.
Picnic hosted by DMV Chapter: (July 3, 2011 – 2pm-7pm) ,regarding departure and last minute socializing, the DMV chapter will host an outdoor picnic for members
Post Convention Academia Tour: (July 5 – July 8, 2011 - Week long Event) The Vice Chancellor, Provosts, University Faculties and alumni executives will visit several universities in the Washington DC Metro area. This would be a great project, whereby they get the opportunity to interact with faculty members from some of the finest Universities in United States.
