Kudos To Ghana High Commission UK

And The Knowledge Channel

In response to the social problems affecting Ghanaian youths in the UK, the Ghana High Commission in collaboration with Ghana Union with sponsorship from Tullow Oil, organized a GHANA YOUTH DAY at the Tottenham Leisure Centre on October 2, 2010. The Forum which utilized Teachers, Sociologists, Psychologists, Social-Psychologists, and Economists resource persons, was attended by over six hundred young people of Ghanaian origin addressed primarily issues of juvenile delinquency in the Ghanaian community in the UK. Due to the overwhelming success of the Forum, it was decided to make it a biennial event with Resume/CV preparation, interviewing skills, and remedial workshops in science and mathematics in-between. The next Ghana Youth Day, will therefore be held in October 2012.

It was in furtherance of this objective that the Ghana High Commission with financial support from Tullow Oil last year, the Ghana High Commission, UK, again, in partnership with The Knowledge Channel and The Leadership Partnership, held a successful and edifying workshop for Ghanaian youth at the Ghana High Commission, UK, on 18th August 2011. All attendees were coached on writing CVs and interviewing tips and encouraged to communicate their self-pitches with confidence. The talented candidates, ready to be placed in sectors of choice, will be given opportunities to network with recruiters and professionals later on this year. Participation in the workshops is free.

The workshops, which will continue throughout the year, are run by banking professionals and management consultants including such notables as Dr. Ian Dodds, Ms. Hannah Acquah, Ms Isobel Acquah, and Mr. Kofi Dabanka, on voluntary basis. The workshops are designed not only to prepare our youth for professional placements in employment but also to occupy them during the vacation periods. This, the High Commission believes, will help to minimize delinquency and criminal activities that some of our youth have been engaged in. The good thing about the workshops is that it is free and open to all interested youth. There has been a lot of publicity on this project in the Ghanaian churches and more information is available on the Knowledge Channel website (www.theknowledgechannel.tv) and Ghana High Commission. The reason I am praising the Ghana High Commission and the Knowledge Channel for hosting the workshop is that my niece participated in it and came back to tell me about how beneficial it has been for her.

The Knowledge Channel, headed by Hannah Acquah, is a non-profit education organisation headquartered in the United Kingdom. It provides practical online training content to students, young professionals and entrepreneurs with the sole process of empowering and enhancing their professional and entrepreneurial capabilities. This is achieved through:

• Creation of an innovative online learning framework using multi-media to capture our audience;

• Distribution of our training programmes via internet, mobile applications and television; and

• Offering CV writing, interview training workshops and educational webinars (“Leadership Partnership”).

The Leadership Partnership Project is endorsed by the Ghana High Commission, UK in response to the educational empowerment needs of students, young professionals and entrepreneurs identified following the ‘Ghana Youth Forum’ hosted by the Ghana High Commission and sponsored by Tullow Oil on 2nd October 2010.

The aim of this project is to empower individuals with tools to enable them to choose a more positive and self-rewarding future, and to bring out their leadership capabilities. The Leadership Partnership educates Ghanaian students and young professionals in the Diaspora and across Ghana.

The Leadership Partnership workshop seeks to create a network of capable, inventive and driven leaders across the local and Diaspora Ghanaian community. My brothers and sisters, I learn that the next Leadership Partnership workshop will be held at the Ghana High Commission Consular Offices at 104 Highgate Hill on Thursday 27th October 2011.I encourage all parents to register their wards for the subsequent sessions. I also understand that it needs mentors for our youth. Let all our successful compatriots line up to mentor our young folks, for they are our future.
