Kwahuman Europe, an umbrella union that brings into it’s fold seven National Associations across the European continent held its end-of -year Euro- conference last Saturday 20th November 2010 in the Northern city of Brescia in Italy .
The day, which will remain a memorable one for Kwahu citizens resident in Italy, was attended by delegates from Kwahuman Belgium, France, Germany ,Netherlands,Switzerland and the United Kingdom respectively. In attendance in their numbers to support the occassion were delegates mostly from Brescia,Reggio-Emelia, Modena, Pordenone, Udine and Verona .
The 3-Day conference with the theme "Finding sustainable solutions to problems facing the Kwahu Traditional Area",was one of the most successful conferences organized and attended by delegates of Kwahuman Europe.
In his welcome address the President of Kwahuman Italy Elder Alex Antwi Adjei called on the delegates to be focused when contributing and commenting on issues on the agenda of the day .He asked that, they utilize every opportunity that comes their way wisely, stressing that Kwahuman Europe is the creation of a concept backed by its constitution, carefully formulated and geared towards the building of a solid foundation upon which future leaders of the union will build upon.
The President of the Union, Dr Abena Keller-Agyepong who presided over the conference in her opening speech ,congratulated the member Associations for bringing the Union to its current status. She remarked that although the Union is young, it has in its two years of existence achieved a lot in terms of putting up structures on which to administer the union..Amongst such structures is the inauguration of the Union in Amsterdam in an Easter/Fund raising Celebration, which unravelled the intentions of the Union to the world , the creation of the website for the union www.kwahumaneurope.eu ,the creation of a priceless emotional nearness and unity amongst member associations , members and sympathizers in general . This she said helped to bring to light the meaning of the motto underpinning of Kwahuman Europe,thus, "United we Stand Divided we Fall"
She reminded all present and stressed the fact that, the ultimate goal of the Union is to help raise the standard of living of the people in the Kwahu Traditional Area in terms of Health ,Education and ,Socio-economic developments. She called on all Kwahus to join hands, heads and heart in finding sustainable solutions for the area thereby helping with the overall development of Ghana.
Speaking at the Conference as a special quest of honour,the Honourable member of Parliament for the Kwahu Mpraeso Constituency, Seth Kwame Acheampong said he was happy to witness the sort of unity among Kwahu citizens in the Diaspora..
Advising the conference,he urged delegates to be mindful of the various opportunities back home.He reported that, there is a great interest by all governments in the Afram Plains, as this area is greatly suitable for sustainable agricultural projects. He called on the delegates to propagate and seriously look into and the idea of entering into farming ventures. This, he stressed is the future, as modern agriculture is will remain the most sustainable and lucrative undertaking in Ghana which will help feed our people and improve upon their standard of living.
Mr Acheampong was also instrumental in helping the conference identify current problems facing the traditional area which needed immediate attention. He maintained that the socio-economic well being of a people depends on the health of its people .As such,he called on the conference to consider adopting the renovation of the Atibie Government hospital which has not seen any general renovation since it was built. This plea he hopes will fall on receptive ears and will be included in the future projects chosen by Kwahuman Europe.
The vice President of the Union,Mr Kwaku Asante of Kwahuman UK, expressed the gratitude of the Union to the member of Parliament for spending time out of his tight schedule to attend the conference.He said this was a gesture of goodwill and shows his dedication to help find solutions aimed towards the the development of the Kwahu traditional area and Ghana in general
The 3-Day marathon conference was brought to an end with a dinner dance later organized by Kwahuman Italy for the delegate and members of the host country.
Kwahuman Europe took the opportunity to launch a two-in-one CD featuring among others the latest live performance of Nana Kwame Ampadu, Daasebre Dwamena .The first beauty pageant of Kwahuman Europe is also captured on this DVD
The DVDs are still available for sale at an affordable price. Proceeds will go to Kwahuman Europe to help fund its identified projects.
Kwahuman Germany was chosen for the next Conference at a date and exact place in Germany to be announced .
