Kwamang Community In UK Support Programmes At Home

The head of Finance and administration of the International Cocoa Organization based in the UK, Dr. K.K. Sarpong displayed high financial and administrative skills in assisting the Kwamang community in the UK to raise thousands of pounds at a fund raising dinner dance in London last week end.

As he chaired the function which was aimed at raising funds for the acquisition of equipment for the Kwamang hospital in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Sarpong did not only exhibited his high sense of patriotism but also showed to the gathering his abilities in fund raising.

A citizen of the Kwamang area, he encouraged the guest, numbered over 500 from all over the UK and parts of Europe to donate generously towards the health care of the people in the Kwamang area. He was of the view that when the Kwamang hospital is well equipped it will not only help to minimize the high rate of maternal death reported from the area each year, but will also reduce the pressure on the Mampong and Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

Dr. Sarpong noted that the time was ripe for the people in the area to have a fitting hospital that can provide quality health care services to the people adding that the government alone cannot make such a provision hence the need for all to assist. He then pledged his assistance and support to the people.

The occasion itself was characterized with a rich pomp and pageantry. Some chiefs and queens from Ghana including a chief from the Denkyira area of Ghana Nana Boa Agyarko 111 graced the occcasion with their presence. The guests were treated to assorted Ghanaian dishes and highlife music leaving no body in his or her seat.

Dr. Sarpong capitalized on the joyous atmosphere mixed with a sad story about the poor state of the Kwamang hospital and presented a heart-touching appeal to the emotions of the gathering and the response could be seen than to be described. The wife of a former Head of State Mrs. Faustina Acheampong led a group of Ghanaian women in the UK to make the first handsome cash amount towards the project in response to the appeal.

The gesture whipped up the desire and enthusiasm of the guest to pursue the MCs who were holding bowl in the center of the hall to drop in cash.

A representative of Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Mr. Bani commended the people for their high sense of patriotism and commitment and pledged the Commission’s support and assistance towards the improvement of facilities at the hospital.

In another development, members of the Wiamoase community in the UK have also held similar function to raise funds for health facility back home. The Deputy Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Mr. Baah Duodu expressed satisfaction about the participation of Ghanaian communities’ abroad in the development of the areas in Ghana. He said if the trend continues the government’s aim of rebuilding the country will be achieved without much difficulty.
