The final journey home by the late Gladys Wundowa, killed in the July bomb blast in London will be on the Wednesday, 17th of this month when her remains will be landing at the Kotoka international Airport in Accra.
Mrs Wundowa visited Ghana for the last time in August last year with her two children Azuma Wundowa 16 who is awaiting her GCSE results and Zakari Wundowa 14 tothether with a friend who planned to expore investment opportunities in the country.
Before the body is flown on Fly Jet from the Gatwick International Airport in London to Accra, there will be a memorial service on Saturday the 13th of August at the Methodist Central hall of the Westnister Chapel in central London.
The widower, Mr Emmanuel Wundowa in an interview said the funeral planning committee set up has released a programme for a fitting burial and final funeral rites for Gladys who came face to face with death during the atrocious acts of some four suicide bombers who attacked London transport network in July this zear.
The service, according to him, is organised bz the Downs Baptist Church in Hackney, with the Reverend Dr. Samuel Ghamm officiating.
The service is expected to be attended by a large number of sympathisers from both the international and the Ghanaian communities in the UK including Ghana?s High commissioner to the UK, Mr Isaac Osei.
In Ghana, the body will be convezed to Avenu-Awudome in the Volta Region, Glady?s home town for burial and funeral rites on the 20th.
According to Mr. Wundowa, a memorial service will be held at the Avenu Baptist Church in the same town the following day, 21st after which the family will move to Nalerigu in the Northern region, where Emmanuel comes from, for the last family gathering.
He said the has received treamendous support from the Ghanaian communityy and noted that ?I could not perhaps been able to survive the truma without their support.?
He disclosed that while in Ghana, he will take the opportunity to seek audience with the President, Mr. J.A. Kufour to express his gratitude to the good people of Ghana.
Gladys 50, who was described by his widower as an angel, loving, caring and kind was killed together with 12 others who were among 80 others on board No 30 bus at Tavistock square during the bombing by an eighteen year old bomber. Though she was injured, she was found conscious when the medics arrived on the scene of the incident. She was attended to and despatched to a hospital, but she died in the ambulance before it got to the hospital. It took her family three days of searching before they could get confirmed news about her. The police called at their home and confirmed Gladys' death as a victim of the attack on "Bus 30". Mr. Wundowa said ?I have not been of my own self since the evening of 7th july. I have not even been able to go to work? he concluded sadly.
