Memorial Service for Atta-Mills at Presbyterian Church, Toronto

Ghanaian Presbyterian Church, 51 High Meadow Place Toronto, was the venue for the memorial service for the Late President John Evans Atta-Mills. The event was held on Sunday August 12, 2012 a day after the Late president was buried in Accra, Ghana.

The Very Rev. De-Graft Semie Obiri the moderator for the service, offered the opening prayer followed by the reading of the profile of the Late President by Larry Kutuadu of Ghanaian-Canadian Association of Ontario after Eugene Kotey had given the purpose of gathering.

Rev. Frank Adu of the Ghanaian Pr esbyterian Church delivered brief but powerful and solemn sermon. He admonished the congregation to lead exemplary lives as death is inevitable, and that there is life after death. If we have Christ there is hope that we will live again. he added. Also a Christian should not mourn as if there is no hope. Our late president was a humble person and real believer. Rev. Adu, said, he an encounter with the late president and that on his graduation from the seminary, the late president gave him a signed Bible as a present.”He was down to earth and accorded respect to everybody who came his way” he concluded. Tributes were read by NPP Canada, NDC Canada, Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario representatives with the Consul-General of Ghana, Toronto, Mr. Kodjo Mawutor delivering the eulogy. In between the service, song tributes were rendered by the Ghanaian Presbyterian choir and Assemblies of God church choir with a solo by Ebenezer Edusa Eyison of Calvary Methodist Church, Mayall. In attendance were a delegation of the Okuapeman Cultural Association led byNana La-Kumi Sasraku, and the Asanteman Association of Toronto delegation led by Nana Tutumirika and the Asantefuohemaa Nana Pokua Gyamfi Kumanini. and some some members of the community. Some of the hymns sung at the service were, Guide me O Thou great Jehova, Captain of Israel, Through all the changing scenes with “Dayie” as the closing hymn. And Nearer my God to thee as the recessional hymn.

The officiating ministers were Apostle F.Y. Agyeman, Rev. Fr. Alex Osei, Rev. Joseph Osei-amoah, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Opoku Ware, Rev. Fr. Asamoah Gyedu, Rev. Frank Adu, Very Rev. S.V. Mpere, Very Rev. Semie Obiri. Refreshments were offered after the service. Source: Ghanaian News Canada
