Chicago, IL, USA -- A historical moment occurred on Saturday, December 11th in Chicago. The moment included a clash between the hottest Ghanaian DJs in the state of Ilinois and also the crowing of the historical Miss Ghanaweb 2004. (pictures) The event was all for fun and also a fundraising event for the Ghanaian children's summer camp. The two DJs were not the only personalities on center stage. I will continue with the story of other personalities in a moment. In any Ghanaian event in Chicago, the DJ of the party would either be "Off the Chain" and ubiquitous DJ Samuel Quaye, popularly known as Sam-Q and the mighty Millinium Soundz but not both at the same party. They have proved that they are great and would always impress their audience. They used the occasion to make a difference in their community.
Back to personalities at the occasion, the event was hosted by two MCs. One is a legend in Chicago; he has been hosting events for over twenty years, well respected, dignified, well loved, nice personality and would always grace an occasion. He is no other than the "Chicago Mayor", Mr. Boafo Papafio. The other MC; is currently an experienced broadcaster with ties to GTV, world renowned, well spoken, great sense of humour and is currently the world's best Ghanaian female MC. Her name is Mrs JENNIFER NARTEY. Mrs Nartey would give any male MC a run for his money. She brought "Da House down". The Legendary Papafio was so impressed with Mrs Nartey and asked the audience for a loud and long round of applause for her. They are the Ghanaian version of "Regis and Kelly". They were great and would always grace an occasion when entrusted to host it. Mrs Nartey's manager has made it known to Ghanaweb that she is always available to host any major Ghanaian event in the world. She is definitely a world class MC.
Moreover, each DJ was given an hour to show his "skillz" and they gave the audience more than they asked for. With regards to the Ms Ghanaweb pageant, they were no contestants so Mrs. Nartey used another concept. She requested all the ladies in the audience to the dance floor. With judges in place, ten best dancers were picked and then were narrowed to the top three finalists. The final three danced and the one who impressed the judges and the audience became Miss Ghanaweb. She is no other than Antoinette Akosua Adutwumaah Kwateng;J.D. A lawyer by profession, the beautiful and lovely Ms. Kwateng shook "what her mama gave her", she is a great dancer and had so much fun. Ms Ghanaweb was presented with a cloth and would be featured on Ghanaweb frequently throughout the year until a new queen is crowned in 2005.
Later on the best dressed gentleman was found and his name goes by the name; Mustapha Abubakari, a Hair stylist. He was presented with his prize by Nana Akwasi Addae; Chief of Asanteman Association in Chicago. There was a raffle winner who also won a DVD player. Nana Akwasi Addae, well respected and dignified community leader was commended for his hardwork by Mr. Papafio.
The judges for the competition were; Mrs. Elizabeth Bekoe, out-going President of The Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, Mrs. Sally Owusu, outgoing Organizing Secretary of the Ghana National Council, Mrs. Betty Agyemang, Mr. Amponsah-Yeboah of the Brong Ahafo Association of Chicago. Present at the party were Mrs. Patience Adigbli, outgoing secretary of The Ghana National Council of Chicago, Mr. Clement Timpo, former President of The GNC and Mr. Samson Akotuah, outgoing Business Manager of The GNC. Also present were two former Asantefuohene of Chicago, Nana Akwasi Addae and Nana Akwasi Appiah and Brong Ahafo chief of Chicago, Nana Yaw Adu-Gyamfi and Mr. CNN of Ghanaweb.
Mr. CNN was given special commendations for his contributions to the Ghanaian Community in Chicago. In his remark, Mr. CNN of behalf of Ghanaweb thanked the audience for their support. He went on to talk about Ghanaweb being the world's number one Ghanaian innovative internet news provider with millions of worldwide audience. He encouraged Ghanaians to support Ghanaweb by advertising their businesses on the site. The site has been built to provide news for the worldwide Ghanaian community so they should make good use of it.
Ghanaweb appreciates the support of the National Council of Chicago, Mr. Papafio and Mrs Janet Nartey, sponsors and the Ghanaian community in Chicago for supporting and also gracing the occasion for us. Because of your immense support, Ghanaweb has adopted Chicago as our home in the USA.
