Friends of Ghana, friends of HE The Late President John Evans Atta Mills Chicago Prepares to Honor the Late President Mills.

The somber mood across the Motherland, Ghana, appears to have permeated into Ghanaians in the diaspora especially members of the Ghanaian community in Chicagoland. As shown by the community at the recent past Ghanafest 2012, majority of attendees were in the traditional red and black mourning clothing whilst the topic of conversation was centered on the tragic death of the president of Ghana. The Ghanaian community in the Chicago area has put their political affiliations to the side and prepares to mourn the former President of Ghana, Professor John Evans Atta-Mills starting from tomorrow, Friday August 10th through Saturday August 11th 2012. One will hope that the emotional grip of the loss of their president will garner the community to attend the events lined up to honor the late president massively.
The two day events will commence at the DuSable Museum of African American History, 740 E. 56th Place from 1 to 5 P.M. The planning committee for this event have specially ordered condolence book to befit the occasion. The DuSable Museum President and CEO, Carol L. Adams, Ph.D., Jesse Jackson, the Chicago area Chiefs, Queens’ elders, the Ghanaian council of churches led by Rev. Dr. Kofi Noonoo and members of the Ghanaian are committed to pay their last respects to the first president to pass away in office. Other dignitaries expected to attend tomorrow’s event are the Mayor of Chicago, Rham Emmanuel.
After the book signing event, members of the community are invited to the house of a close and personal friend of the late president, Cobby Boahene, at 661 Walker Way, New Lennox to celebrate the life of the former president.
