As part of the ongoing process to build a new Constitution in line with the nation’s economic, social and political aspirations, the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) has called for consultation amongst Ghanaians both home and abroad to make suggestions and inputs into the new process. Embassies abroad have been instructed to engage Ghanaians overseas in the process.
As a result NDC Europe has instructed its members to have discussions amongst the various Branches and to make submissions on issues of interest for submission to the Constitutional Review Commission.
NDC Europe is a network of NDC branches in Europe which presently includes Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, Norway and Italy. It aims to strengthen the structures of the NDC Party in Europe and Ghana, build our alliances with mainstream EU Socialist Parties with the aim of enhancing the Democracy and Governance system in Ghana.
A number of Branches have embarked on the Consultation process including Norway Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. However members of these Branches face a number of challenges including the ability to interpret and disseminate the Constitutional clauses to their members and to make inputs to the process. The main issue of concern amongst others, include discriminatory aspects of the Dual nationality laws and the voting rights of Ghanaians resident abroad.
As a result NDC Europe is requesting for Constitutional or Legal Experts on a Pro Bono basis to offer assistance to our Branches. Assistance will be through either email or telephone contacts with the assisted Branches and members, and also participation at Branch Meetings and Fora to discuss Constitutional issues of concern. The individual may also be requested to meet with NDC Headquarters in Accra, Parliamentary Select Committees and the Constitutional Review Commission to discuss and deliberate on Constitutional issues of concern to NDC Europe members. Fluency in anyone of the local languages Ga, Hausa, Twi and Ewe will be helpful.
