NDC-Germany Breaks Silence over Rawlings Saga

The office of the NDC-Germany communication Directorate has come out of its culture of silence to criticize certain utterances contained in a speech read by former President Jerry John Rawlings in a passionate manner at the 33rd Anniversary celebration of the June 4 Uprising in Aflao, Volta region last Sunday 3rd June 2012.

According to Mr. Rawlings “the NDC has run itself into a ditch and can not beat their opponents NPP in the upcoming elections if the ideals of the June 4 uprisings have been abandoned”.

He said he foresaw the NDC entering the "ditch" a long time a go. According to him, the NDC has wasted all opportunities to prevent itself running into the ditch.

It would be recalled that, Rawlings endorsed his vice-president Prof. John Evans Atta Mills as presidential candidate in 2000. The NDC with Mills as candidate, however, lost the elections to the NPP candidate John Agyekum Kufour. With enthusiastic and charismatic support of Rwalings, Prof. Mills won the election in 2008 general elections.

The communiqué however detailed that, prior to and after the Sunyani Congress, where the delegates home and abroad fully endorsed President J. E. A. Mills as their presidential candidate for the 2012 elections, the former President's criticisms of the NDC government have turned to attacks, indirect insults, intimations and frustrations especially verbal explosion on the 15th of May 2012 during the 31st December Women's Movement 30th Anniversary celebrations have become serious concern of the NDC-Germany and beyond.

It’s unprecedented and unusual in the history of Ghana for a ruling government to be challenged by his own party executive barely 17 Months prior to general elections. The baffling question thereof is that, assuming the president’s opponent had won the race, what would have been the state of the Nation?

NDC unlike other political parties was formed from the Umbilical cord of AFRC-PNDC uprising by diversified group of people with collective aims and objectives in pursuit of common goal. Accountability and probity, though constitute nucleus of the congress (party) are also part and parcel of the nation’s constitution that requires successive governments to render comprehensive accounts of stewardship to the good citizenry of Ghana. Therefore, until the land’s court of justice proves one guilty of an offence, no person or group of persons, association etc own the power to execute judgment. We therefore strongly believe that, this is exactly what the Mills administration has been doing.

We caution that such frustrating wrangling within the party might not yield any fruitful result except that it could only breed “conducive” grounds for opposition NPP which is hostile to him (JJ) and which they (NPP) would like to crucify him to come into power.

One clear and undisputable fact which His Excellency The former President, Jerry John Rawlings, must know is that a worst NDC party in power will do well to protect him far better than the best NPP party in power. It is also our sad observation that the consequences of his on-going political activities would be destructive to him if it is not discontinued.

The statement signed by Chris Mensah and Karim Abiila further congratulate and appraised Prof. Mills for having shown high sense of professionalism and maturity in dealing with all these turbulences. “The president has never lost focus butdiligently discharging his duties”. The statement added.

By virtue of this release, the NDC-Germany requires from the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party to come clear and state the party's position on the founder, in order to instill discipline and calm in the party to give members a clear sense of direction.

“If the opposition NPP would adhere to these political talks by the former President Rawlings, then they would be building their castles in illusions” Karim chipped in.

The NDC –Germany therefore wishes to appeal to all Executives of the NDC branches and chapters all over the world – Europe, USA, Canada, Asia, UK, etc to persuade all party loyalists and sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at all levels, to rally behind President J.E.A. Mills and the party leadership to ensure a massive and resounding victory in the 2012 general elections.
