Independent Presidential Candidate

-Pops Up to Cause Upset in 2016 Polls?

The duopoly of the National Democratic Congress and New Patriotic Party in Ghana politics since the advent of the fourth Republic in 1992 is set to come under threat in the 2016 presidential election as intelligence reaching The aL-hAJJ indicates that a US-based wealthy Ghanaian is mobilizing considerable amount of resources to enable him stake a claim to the presidency as an independent candidate.

The US based shrewd business executive cum politician (name withheld), this paper is reliable informed, has so far mobilized near to US$50 million in furtherance of his presidential campaign next year and still counting.

Even though none of the independent presidential candidates who have so far contested presidential elections under the fourth Republican constitution have made any impact or posed any serious challenge to the two dominant political parties, the NDC and the NPP, The aL-hAJJ investigations show that the “2016 polls will be a different ball game.”

While still in political hibernation, the yet-to-be declared independent presidential candidate is reported to have dispatched some of his volunteers to Ghana who are also said to be covertly working with seasoned political analysts and strategists in the country to prepare the grounds for his triumphant entry.

A source close to independent presidential candidate-in-waiting says “he will come down soon, latest by December this year and will officially announce his intention to run for president. In our part of the world you need money to do politics and I can confidently tell you that he has mobilized a lot.”

According to the source Ghanaians have lost confidence in both the ruling NDC and the biggest opposition NPP and indeed, the political class altogether, adding “just as Thomas Yayi Boni did it in Benin, he is also poised to replicate same in Ghana.”

“I know it’s going to be difficult, but with the sort of cash he is committing to this project, if even he does not win in the first round there will be a runoff and the party that comes third would throw its weight behind him. So far as the 2016 election is concerned, history beacons,” the source noted.

Adding that “It is a fact that aside the two major political parties, the other parties, as the case stands now, cannot make any meaningful impact in any election. The best any of them can do is to push the election into a runoff and form alliance with one of the major parties. They do this because they lack the requisite resources and are unable to properly propagate their messages. There is glaring evidence that Ghanaians are fed with NDC and NPP but there is no alternative, so at the end of the day it’s either NDC or NPP that is voted to form government. The next election will however, see an end to this unfortunate circumstance Ghanaians find themselves in.”

Though, The aL-hAJJ has the identity and full profile of the yet-to-be identified aspiring Ghanaian Independent Candidate, the paper, following an understanding reached with him on condition he confirmed his intention; chose not to disclose it for now.

“I’m keeping this information close to my chest…I want to announce it myself when I come to Ghana. I want to make it a Christmas package for Ghanaians,” he noted. Stay tuned
