Urges party unity
The Secretariat of the NDC UK and Ireland Chapter reminds all members, branches of the Chapter and Executives in the UK and Ireland that the Chapter as a body will continue to remain non-aligned at the upcoming NDC National Delegates Congress in line with the Chapter’s historically neutral position that aims to promote unity in the party—as it has always done—since the formation of the NDC UK & Ireland nearly 20 years ago.
For guidance purposes, the public is reminded that the Chapter has historically established a type of democratic practice where a particular date is set prior to Congress for all chapter members to engage in peaceful open debate on candidates vying to be elected to the position of Leader and Presidential Candidate of the NDC. Chapter members would recall that prior to the 2006 NDC presidential primaries, the NDC UK & Ireland held an open debate on that year’s presidential primaries at a venue located inside London South Bank University in November 2006 where members were given the opportunity to state their individual democratic opinions.
The Chapter believes that delegates to the NDC National Delegates Congress are the only legitimate people constitutionally mandated to elect the candidate they deem fit to lead the party into election 2012. The Chapter will fully support the Candidate delegates will elect as Leader and presidential candidate of the party. Given that the NDC presently has an active Leader, the Chapter is fully committed to the Better Ghana Agenda of the current NDC Leader, His Excellency President John Atta Mills since he is the existing constitutionally elected Leader of our beloved party.
For this reason, the NDC UK and Ireland Chapter Secretariat also wishes to inform members and the general public that as the party goes to Congress to elect a Presidential Candidate, views and declarations from individual members or individual Executives of the Chapter must not be construed as the official position of the Chapter. In order to promote party unity, individual members and Executives are advised to refrain from making divisive declaration statements in the name of the Chapter.
The Secretariat urges all NDC sympathizers, members and leaders in Ghana and across the world to do what we do best by working towards party unity in the supreme interest of the NDC and Ghana.
