The much talked about Victory Party celebrating Ghana’s Democracy and the recent general election won by His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama took place in Maryland on Saturday April 06, 2013. The Victory Party was organized by the Washington Metro Branch of the NDC and was attended by many personalities from all over the USA.
After Rev. Kennedy Odzafi, a Minister at a Presbyterian Church in Silver Spring had opened the party with a prayer, it was clear that the evening was going to be full of fun and entertainment. The Chairman of the function, Mr. Frank Tamakloe, a Business Man in the Washington area, led the people to a minute silence in honor of the late President, His Excellency John Fiifi Atta-Mills. And in his acceptance remarks, he narrated the victories NDC has won since 1992. He called for unity in the NDC party, both in Ghana and in the USA. Mr. Tamakloe indicated that the victory in 2012 was the most significant because he believes Ghana has the right leadership to bring to fulfillment the better Ghana agenda that was promoted during the 2012 campaign.
The key-note address was given by Ghana’s Deputy Ambassador to the USA, Honorable Mrs Edith Hazel, who was the Guest of Honor. She stated that the NDC victory in 2012 was a victory not only for NDC but also for everyone and every Ghanaian. She therefore urged all Ghanaians to come together and help build a better country. Mrs Hazel asked Ghanaians to be united for the purpose of helping our country because “we are stronger when we are united”. She observed that sometimes when you read things on the internet, you would think that the worse is happening in Ghana but the true picture is, Ghana is really moving forward in a positive direction under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama. The Deputy Ambassador, advised Ghanaians to stop the politics of insults both on the radio and on the internet but rather we should use those tools to spread the good news about Ghana that would attract investors to the only country we all have and love. In conclusion, she thanked the organizers of the party, and advised that they should take advantage of the occasion to win more people to the greatest party in Ghana, that is the NDC Party.
The Acting Chairman of NDC-USA, Mr Prince Evar-Agyemang also used the occasion to thank all Ghanaians for the patience they’ve had for the President as Ghana goes through this period of “dumsor dumsor.” He believes that within the shortest possible time, these electricity and water problems would be things of the past. Mr Evar-Agyemang encouraged the other sister branches in USA to also organize their victory parties. He put forth his plans to open more branches in the USA because he believes the NDC is the only CREDIBLE political party that can bring better living conditions to all Ghanaians.
The Chairman of the NDC Washington Metro Branch, Mr Charles Kpodzo, during his remarks, introduced and thanked his Executive members and especially the organizers of the party for a job well done. He gave an indication that if it is God’s will and we are all alive, the Victory Party in 2016 would be much bigger and more interesting that this one.
There were delegates from NDC-USA, NPP-USA, PPP-USA, Akwaaba Radio (Virginia), Sunlight Radio (Virginia), Ghanaweb, NDC sympathizers and friends from Florida, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Atlanta and across all United States of America.
The MCs for the function were Lawrence Appiah-Osei from NDC-Washington Metro and Grace Imo from NDC-New York.
