Rejoinder NDC USA Coalition Chapters

This comes as a response to a recent publication by our friends of NPP in USA appearing in the Ghanaians Abroad section of the March 1, 2015 edition of GhanaWeb, captioned "NDC can't solve energy crises - NPP-USA". First point, this is not the first time we are hearing about the "can't do" label against governments by some elements among NPP and their forebears. But those cynics have been proven wrong, time and time again. We shall not be perturbed; we are moving on while they wait for the next train.

At a time when patriotic citizens are putting their shoulders to the wheel for the cause of Ghana, it is only citizens who see themselves as rightful owners of resources of Ghana who will sit on the fence "praying and fasting" for the failure of a government, and by extension failure of their own country.

The truly patriotic and respected persons who have love for country, would always put their political caps aside and bring their expertise and efforts to the table to help find solutions. We doff our hats for such gallant men like Mr. Kwame Mpianim who would show up at all critical moments for the sake of a country. We doff our hats for Prof Frimpong Boateng who recently chaired a stakeholders meeting on the energy sector. We pay respect to Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey, an Energy Consultant and a trailblazer in the Ghana Energy sector for being part of the session to help perform realistic assessment of the energy situation to find closure to the energy deficit gap. We extend our compliment to Dr; Kwesi Nduom for stating recently in direct reference to the disgraceful "Won Gbo demonstration that, "Demonstrations... without determined unified commitment to debate and think through solutions will not get us anywhere". These men, among other fair-minded citizens are writing legacies cast in stone in their time for posterity to celebrate. To them, it cannot be politics as usual, and crave for power at all costs, emanating from a mindset of heir and birthright. Let our brothers and sisters in NPP-USA learn from these leaders, who would differentiate between a time for politics and a time to offer yourself for a call to national duty.

The power crises have not been unknown in years past. The energy problem is not the creation of President John Mahama and his NDC government. This is not the first time the country is encountering such a problem. The country had experienced occurrences during the periods of 1982/83, 1997/98, 2002/2003, 2006/7, and now for the fifth time. We wish we had found lasting solution as a country during those earlier occurrences.

Today we have a President who has taken full responsibility for the problem, instead of looking back and assigning the problem elsewhere. We have a President today calling on all minds from all walks of life, from all political colors, not to sleep on this problem, but help save all of us from this perennial problem. The least one would expect of a son and daughter, fortunate enough to live in a developed economy such as the US is exploring opportunities from here to support the local effort in Ghana.

While they, "diasporean anti-patriotic" citizens of Ghana continue to pray for a failed state, the country continues to find friends and partners in governmental agencies in the US and elsewhere, including international business communities to help resolve the problem. Result of such efforts they can find with shame in the recent Compact 2 of the Millennium Challenge Account bringing in over $500m mainly directed to the energy sector. The result could be found in the Obama Power Africa program that makes available $7.5 billion for five selected African countries including Ghana as a beneficiary. The result could be found in GE entering the energy industry in Ghana to help augment our energy capacity by at least a 1000mw. The result is what the government of Germany and its business community decided as complementary help to Ghana, while NPP were disgracing themselves in the cold outside the conference halls and hotels where serious business was being transacted. The list cannot be exhausted here.

We, your cousins, brothers, and sisters of NDC-USA Chapter ignore with contempt such disgraceful statements coming from supposedly enlightened fellows who just have failed to see anything good happening in their own country. It is said that, unknown to it that she is soiling her own buttocks, is the goat that defecates through the community thinking that she is disgracing others.

President John Mahama will not be distracted, he is focused. The likes of NPP-USA can continue to quote him out of context in his addresses during town-hall meetings with Ghanaians wherever he goes. Those Ghanaians who gather to interact with him will be wiser the more. President John Mahama will continue to mesmerize others at State of Nation Addresses while others slumber away.

Ghana will not die (courtesy President Atta-Mills); others can choose to live in their negative thinking that it will win them elections. We will not wait for them.

Long live Ghana

Long live NDC!
