NDC diaspora, you are vital to the NDC agenda – Portuphy

NDC USA executives, members and enthusiastic supporters from various parts of the country converged in Washington on a weekday, Thursday March 26, 2015 to listen and interact with their newly elected chairman and his delegation in Washington DC.

The chairman of NDC USA, Nii Ashiboi Armah welcomed Chairman Kofi Portuphy and the delegation including Hon. Fritz Baffour, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma South. Nii Ashiboi, on behalf of the NDC USA Chapter, congratulated Dr. Kofi Portuphy on his recent election victory as the National Chairman of the NDC Party. He went on to thank them for the hard work they have been doing for mother Ghana. He also mentioned a few issues affecting the party in the Diaspora.

Speaking to the enthusiastic executives and members, the National chairman Dr. Kofi Portuphy, encouraged members to work together to forge a more united front for the party. He intimated that the chances of the NDC in the 2016 general elections remains very bright, giving the many developmental projects that are being executed under the leadership of President John Mahama’s government. The National Chairman indicated that, Ghana has gain enormous respect among the committee of nations especially, in the Sub-Region. This, he said, is evident in the many participatory roles and recognition given to Ghana in many international endeavors.

Even though some of you may have been reading various news reports about our challenges, the NDC government is trying to resolve these problems once and for all. Despite all these, the NDC will not be distracted from its agenda to develop the country and give a better life to the people. There are a plethora of developmental projects going on all over the country. He assured members that the numerous projects been embarked upon will continue to positively impact the lives of Ghanaians in their communities. The electricity problem is one of the top most issues the President is trying to resolve once and for all. He mentioned how sea water is being transformed into pure drinking water and the sea waves are one of the numerous ways being pursued to generate electricity. The future will be bright on our energy sources.

Dr. Portuphy who is also the Chairman of the National Disaster Management (NADMO) said Ghana is number one in West Africa in terms of disaster prevention and management. As a result of this laudable achievement, other West African Countries are going to be sending their disaster management personnel to Ghana for training. "We have become the envy of the sub-region and will not let you down", the Chairman affirmed. We are determined to win the 2016 election so that much of our plans could be implemented.

Touching on the NDC Chapters in the diaspora, the chairman had this to say "I look forward to building a stronger NDC in the Diaspora. The challenges in politics are great as such the involvement and contributions of the diasporians are very vital”. Business investment opportunities are available for all Ghanaians to pursue. He took the opportunity to encourage members to invest in their communities back in Ghana.

Touching on few issues, the Member of Parliament from Ablekuma South, Honorable Fritz Baffour, recounted the various contributions and support given by the NDC USA over the years, and he was particularly touched by the spirit and enthusiasm displayed by the members present. He was deeply appreciative of the efforts of the diaspora members of the NDC. Hon. Fritz Baffour went on to explain that while he was on a different official mission, he still could not pass without coming to meet with his compatriots on a foreign land. He said he was delightful to join the chairman to be among us. "I wouldn't miss it for the world to be here among you” he said. On the issues concerning electricity load shedding, the Honorable MP touched on the efforts the government is making to mitigate the problem. "Parliament is working very hard to resolve the ongoing problems the country is facing and he is confident that the problems would be solved once and for all.

The event ended with a dinner reception as the members interacted with the National Chairman and his delegation.
