The New Patriotic Party USA (NPP-USA) has raised concerns over the recent demand of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for a forensic audit of the voters register despite previously endorsing it during the 2016 elections, asaaseradio.com reports.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the communications directorate of the NPP-USA chapter criticised the NDC for its sudden shift from endorsing the register to questioning its integrity.

“In 2015, under the leadership of Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC confidently endorsed the reliability and integrity of Ghana’s biometric voters register. At that time, the party advocated for periodic reviews to maintain the register’s accuracy, a position that demonstrated a commitment to the credibility of our electoral system and the stability of our democracy. They said the demand for a forensic audit of the same voters register the party once supported undermines their credibility.

“However, the NDC’s current demand for a forensic audit of the same voters’ register it once supported raises serious concerns. This sudden shift from a position of confidence to skepticism suggests potential internal apprehensions or fears. Such inconsistency undermines the NDC’s credibility and casts doubt on its current motivations," it stated.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) embarked on a protest dubbed Enough is Enough Demo against the Electoral Commission, citing inconsistencies in the voter’s register in the lead-up to the 2024 election.
