Members of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the German capital, Berlin over the weekend elected new officers to lead and manage the affairs of the party for the next four years.The keenly contested elections saw Mr Emmanuel Mensah a private businessman emerging as the chairman with Mr Samuel Adjei, Director of the Africa Cultural Centre in Berlin as the vice-chairman. Mr Charles Gyimah was elected secretary and has Mr Kwadwo Adjei as his assistant.The position of treasurer went to Mr Kwadwo Asomah Agyei while Mr Kofi Kyei becomes the new organiser.Mrs Monica Nkrumah has the responsibility of organising the women and Mr Kwadwo Oware in now the incharge of organising the youth.Mr Stephen Asare is to handle the communications business of the party . Addressing party supporters after the elections Mr Mensah thanked members for their trust and confidence and gave the assurance that he and his team are determined to work hard and would not relent in their efforts to ensure victory for the NPP in 2012. According to him the Mills-Mahama administration has clearly demonstrated that they are incapable of running a government in view of the untold hardships their failed policies have unleashed on the ordinary Ghanaian and said the situation has reached a point where Ghanaians are dyeing from simple diseases such as cholera. Mr Mensah pointed out that Ghanaians have realised that it was a mistake to have voted for the NDC in the first place and are therefore looking up to the NPP to provide the leadership and direction that has been lacking in our country for the last two years adding’ we cannot let our people down at this crucial moment in our history’. He stated that the NPP will fight the 2012 elections based on issues and not insults, on policies not personalities and on concrete programmes and not empty promises saying ‘governance is not about trading insults but putting in place policies and programmes that can improve the lives of the people’. According to him the eight-year rule of the NPP under President Kuffour is without a doubt the best era in our history in the last 30 years and when given the chance the NPP can prove once again that it has the right policies, programmes and more importantly the right leadership with the vision to move Ghana forward. Mr Mensah reminded Ghanaians that the 2012 elections are very crucial for the future direction of our country and as such each and every Ghanaian has a duty and responsibility to ensure that we get it right this time.
