NPP Canada Exhorts NPP and Calls for Unity of Purpose

Fellow Ghanaians, as the Property Amassing Social Democrats a.k.a. NDC government continues to bungle along in its management of the economy, human rights and freedoms as well as its self-professed anti-corruption crusade (a.k.a. Selective Muntaka Justice and Tractor Give-Aways to NDC Leaders crusade), many Ghanaians are counting the days until the NPP can bring them the hope of a more competent and democratic government.

How many more ordinary Ghanaians have to be hauled away to jail for exercising their freedom of speech, no worse than what NDC folks exercised while in opposition and even do today with impunity? How many times will even the founder of the NDC have to complain of incompetent NDC ministers? How much belt tightening should Ghanaians continue to endure while their President sits in Accra and create virtually no new ideas or get no infusion of scarce funds to improve their lives? How many cars need to be snatched and/or auctioned off innocent importers/owners cheaply to NDC folks? How many government buildings need to burn to ashes? The simple answer is no more. As the NPP goes to its next Congress in the beautiful Garden City of Kumasi, home to a most diverse group of inhabitants from all over Ghana and beyond, it is imperative that the party comes out of the Congress with a renewed sense of togetherness and unity of purpose to defeat the NDC, present a better alternative to the NDC and adopt better ideas for progress. So many Ghanaians are praying and/or yearning that unity prevails within the NPP so that it can fulfill its promise of another round of real prosperity for Ghanaians. At a NPP General Meeting in Toronto on February 21, 2010, we were honoured by the presence of a visiting businessman from Adenta, whose origins are Northern Ghanaian. As this businessman puts it, he had never seen more done by any government in terms of developing the economy and infrastructure of the Northern section of Ghana than by the last NPP government. Surely, many from Greater Accra, BA, Central, Eastern, etceteras can all honestly say the same things. The last NPP government secured more funds for Ghana, built more and better infrastructure, implemented more lasting and better ideas and managed the overall economy and democracy much better than the previous P/NDC and the current NDC government by miles.

We need NPP supporters to therefore focus on such things as economic development, anti-corruption strategies and entrenchment of democracy instead of focusing on personalities and internal conflict. Yes, we understand that people support various candidates and so they should. This is how democracy works and the UP tradition is pre-eminent in promoting democracy more than most parties not just in Ghana but across Africa.

As we elect National Officers and eventually the Flag Bearer, NPP Supporters have to remember that we will need the very same supporters who may have supported different candidates from the eventual winners in order to win the general elections against the NDC in 2012. So, healthy competition we must have but not divisive or hitting below the belt ones. This way, we can unite to achieve our common goals for Ghana.

Ghanaians have never yearned more for "Development in Freedom" and we dare not fail and leave them to a 4th NDC term because of disunity and/or immaturity while we re-organise and renew or change our leadership. We know how the PNDC and then the first two NDC governments failed and we see how this current NDC government is going. Enough is enough! NPP must present a united and formidable alternative to Ghanaian as soon as possible so that the good people of Ghana shall repose their trust in the NPP again. The start of the new beginning should be in Kumasi.
