NPP UK Demonstrates In London as Chairman calls for Coup D'état In Ghana
A group of NPP UK members and activists calling themselves "Concerned Ghanaians Against Electoral Fraud" led by Hayford Atta Krufi, the NPP UK Chairman on Friday took to the streets outside the Ghana Mission in Belgrave Square, South-west London, to deliver a petition to the Ghana High Commissioner to the UK, Professor Kwaku Danso- Boafo.
The botched event was attended by a handful of NPP UK activists and surrogates who trouped to the Ghana Mission to demonstrate against what they call " the subversion of Ghana's Constitution through electoral fraud perpetuated during the recent general elections in Ghana.
The group also claimed that their aim was to draw the attention of the International community to support the legal process taken by their opposition leaders in the courts in Ghana to redress what they claimed were anomalies which took place during the December 2012 elections. Prior to the Friday's event, the Chairman of NPP UK and Ireland Branch who spoke to some pro NPP media houses in London ahead of the event, issued a scare mongering press statement that a Coup D'état was eminent in Ghana if the government of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama does not take steps to reverse the so called harsh conditions Ghanaians were going through.
In the first instance, what we in the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter do not understand is why Chairman Atta Krufi and his bunch of hooligans and hoodlums take to the streets in London when their leaders back in Ghana have petitioned the Courts to address the so-called electoral fraud which they claimed to have been perpetuated during the December 2012 elections.
What do they hope to achieve by these reckless and hot headed actions in a far away country, especially in the UK, when the United Kingdom government and the international community had already given legitimacy to the administration of his Excellency President John Dramani Mahama. We believe these are some pertinent questions which the organisers of the botched event may like to reflect upon.
Secondly, we find that the New Patriotic Party strategy to make unguarded and scare mongering statements appears to be setting in the camp of the opposition as some of its members are adopting every means – fair or foul –to intimidate the very institutions of state handling their petition. We have on record threats to the life of the members of the judiciary should the outcome of the petition hearing not go in their favour. We have heard from leading members of the NPP disabusing and conditioning the minds of their supporters and some sections of the Ghanaian populace to expect the worst should the petitioners lose their case.
We are therefore not surprised at all that Chairman Hayford Atta Krufi of NPP UK and his bunch of hooligans have moved their distasteful strategy to the streets of London. How can a primary school teacher, a so called lawyer and ex military personnel call for a coup d'état in today's Ghana just because the NPP is dillusioned and in a political quagmire. Why should these be the reasons for opposition extremists like Hayford Krufi to instigate diabolic plans to destabilise the country through his distasteful and revolting strategies. The actions of NPP UK resonates with political anarchists who do not believe in democratically elected governments. The NPP UK's actions after the December 2012 elections have become the public face of notoriety and these motivates their way of doing politics. Let's we forget Ghanaians can remember that the UP tradition in 1950s send delegation to this very Queen in the UK not to grant Ghana independence. What is happening today has been their modus operandi whenever they find themselves in opposition. It is an inherent trait in their blood. NPP will never change. The democratically elected NDC government led by His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama is unfazed by these revolting strategies. We have responsibility to Ghanaians and that is what the NDC administration is focused on. The government will continue to provide the macroeconomic stability and the enabling environment to attract businesses to create the much needed jobs for the unemployed.
Under the Advancing Better Ghana Agenda manifesto, the NDC government has promised to pursue prudent policies to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians. The NDC administration has pledged to provide access to quality education where every student in Ghana will proudly gain enrolment and qualifying certificates in identifiable educational institution and produce their qualifications on demand.
The NDC - Mahama administration has pledged to provide good road infrastructure, better housing and healthcare to all Ghanaians no matter where they live in the country.
The NDC government has a vision of a society in which the welfare of one is concern for all not the few. It is a vision that seeks to give form to political representation as an effective and universal tool to open the door of economic opportunities to everyone and guarantee social justice for all.
